Job description

Technical Sales Engineer or Technical Sales Manager

Cathodic Protection and Corrosion Monitoring

Final title will be based on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications.

About the Role

BORIN Manufacturing is seeking a technically capable, customer-focused professional to support the growth of our cathodic protection, corrosion monitoring, and remote data-logging technologies.

This position is open to candidates through one of two pathways:

Experienced Industry Professional
Candidates with direct experience in corrosion prevention, pipeline integrity, industrial instrumentation, telemetry, remote monitoring, infrastructure systems, or technical sales.

Early-Career Engineer
Candidates with a relevant engineering degree and the technical ability, communication skills, and interest required to build a career in technical sales and corrosion prevention.

This is not a general entry-level sales position. Applicants must bring either relevant industry experience or a strong technical education in a related engineering discipline.

The selected candidate will work with engineering firms, distributors, contractors, utilities, pipeline operators, municipalities, and industrial asset owners throughout North America and international markets.

About BORIN Manufacturing

Founded in 1976, BORIN Manufacturing develops and manufactures cathodic protection, corrosion monitoring, and remote data-logging technologies used to protect critical infrastructure.

For 50 years, BORIN products have supported pipelines, storage tanks, water systems, energy facilities, reinforced concrete structures, marine applications, and other buried or submerged assets.

Our technologies help customers improve system visibility, extend asset life, and reduce the risk of corrosion-related failures.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Product Consultation

Help customers identify the appropriate BORIN products based on project specifications, operating conditions, monitoring requirements, and application needs.

Work closely with BORIN’s engineering team to answer technical questions, evaluate applications, and provide accurate product recommendations.

Sales and Business Development

Develop new business with engineering firms, distributors, contractors, pipeline operators, utilities, municipalities, and industrial asset owners.

Manage technical sales opportunities involving product evaluations, quotations, specifications, demonstrations, and multiple project stakeholders.

Experienced candidates will be expected to lead complex sales cycles that may range from six months to more than one year.

Strategic Account Management

Build and maintain long-term relationships with customers, distributors, engineering consultants, contractors, and infrastructure operators throughout the assigned territory.

Support existing accounts while identifying opportunities to expand the use of BORIN technologies.

Technical Presentations

Conduct Lunch and Learns, product demonstrations, webinars, distributor training sessions, and technical presentations for engineers, contractors, field personnel, and end users.

Clearly explain technical concepts and product capabilities to audiences with different levels of technical knowledge.

Project and Specification Support

Review customer requirements and technical specifications to determine whether BORIN products are appropriate for an application.

Support customers and engineering consultants throughout product evaluation, specification, purchasing, and implementation.

This position does not perform engineering design but requires the technical knowledge necessary to communicate effectively with customers and BORIN’s engineering team.

Market Intelligence

Gather customer feedback, monitor industry developments, identify new market opportunities, and communicate customer needs to BORIN’s engineering and management teams.

Candidate Qualifications

Applicants must qualify through either the Industry Experience Pathway or the Engineering Pathway.

Industry Experience Pathway

Candidates should have professional experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Corrosion prevention
  • Pipeline integrity
  • Instrumentation, telemetry, or industrial remote monitoring
  • Utility, pipeline, energy, water, or infrastructure systems

Experience with the following products or technologies is highly preferred:

  • Industrial telemetry or remote monitoring systems
  • Cathodic protection monitoring equipment
  • Industrial sensors and data-acquisition systems

Experienced candidates should also have:

  • Five or more years of B2B technical sales, business development, engineering, field service, or customer-facing industry experience
  • Experience managing technical projects or complex sales opportunities
  • The ability to read technical specifications and understand customer requirements
  • Strong presentation, negotiation, and relationship-management skills
  • Experience working with consulting engineers, EPC firms, contractors, municipalities, utilities, distributors, or industrial asset owners

AMPP, formerly NACE, certification is highly desirable.

Engineering Pathway

Early-career candidates should have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Corrosion Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a closely related technical field
  • A strong interest in technical sales, corrosion prevention, infrastructure, industrial instrumentation, sensors, monitoring systems, or data acquisition
  • The ability to understand technical specifications, product documentation, electrical diagrams, and customer requirements
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • The confidence to communicate with engineers, field technicians, project managers, contractors, and purchasing teams
  • A willingness to learn cathodic protection principles, corrosion monitoring technologies, BORIN products, and relevant industry standards
  • The ability to travel frequently and manage responsibilities with limited supervision

Previous sales experience is preferred but not required for candidates entering through the engineering pathway.

Relevant internships, engineering projects, laboratory work, research, field experience, customer service experience, or participation in technical organizations will be viewed favorably.

Core Attributes

We are looking for someone who:

  • Builds credibility through technical understanding and honest communication
  • Is naturally curious and enjoys learning how technical systems work
  • Can translate complex technical information into clear customer recommendations
  • Is self-motivated and comfortable managing a large territory
  • Communicates effectively with field technicians, engineers, project managers, purchasing teams, and executive leadership
  • Is organized, accountable, and responsive
  • Values long-term customer relationships over short-term sales tactics
  • Wants to build a long-term career in corrosion prevention and infrastructure protection

Travel

This position requires approximately 50% travel, including customer visits, technical presentations, distributor meetings, trade shows, conferences, and industry events throughout North America.

Occasional international travel may also be required.

The selected candidate will meet with BORIN’s management and engineering teams in Los Angeles, California, approximately once per month.

Location

Remote within the United States, with regular travel throughout the assigned territory and monthly meetings in Los Angeles, California.

Compensation

Base salary: $80,000 per year, plus performance-based commission.

Commission will be based on individual sales performance and achievement of established business-development goals.

Why BORIN?

Industry Leadership

Join a global manufacturer with 50 years of experience developing cathodic protection and corrosion monitoring technologies for critical infrastructure.

Technical Development

Work alongside an experienced engineering team and develop expertise in cathodic protection, remote data logging, corrosion instrumentation, and infrastructure monitoring.

Career Growth

Early-career engineers will have the opportunity to develop both technical and commercial expertise in a specialized industry.

Experienced candidates will have the opportunity to grow BORIN’s presence across established and developing markets.

Innovation

Represent technologies that improve the way corrosion data is collected, evaluated, and used to support infrastructure maintenance and reliability.

Meaningful Work

The products you represent help protect pipelines, water systems, bridges, energy facilities, storage tanks, and other critical infrastructure.

Your work will contribute to extending asset life, improving reliability, and reducing the economic and environmental consequences of corrosion-related failures.

Preferred Candidates

Candidates with experience working for cathodic protection manufacturers, corrosion engineering firms, pipeline operators, utilities, industrial instrumentation companies, engineering consultants, or infrastructure asset owners are strongly encouraged to apply.

Early-career Electrical, Chemical, Materials, Mechanical, and Corrosion engineers with a demonstrated interest in instrumentation, electrochemistry, industrial systems, infrastructure, or technical sales are also encouraged to apply.

Experience with AMPP standards, cathodic protection programs, remote monitoring systems, industrial sensors, or corrosion instrumentation will be viewed favorably.

Company Description

Borin Manufacturing, Inc. is a leading provider of corrosion monitoring and cathodic protection equipment, serving industries worldwide for over 40 years. We take pride in producing high-quality, precision-engineered products and maintaining a strong commitment to innovation, safety, and customer satisfaction.
