Job description

Inside Sales Representative — Manual Transmission Specialists

Location: Caldwell, Idaho

Company: Modern Driveline, Inc.

Shift Your Career Into Overdrive

Do you light up when someone mentions a Tremec TKX, a Muncie 4-speed, or the perfect pedal feel from a hydraulic clutch? Modern Driveline is looking for an Inside Sales Representative who lives and breathes manual transmissions — and wants to help enthusiasts across the country build the driving experience they’ve been dreaming about.

This is not a stepping-stone job. We’re looking for someone ready to plant roots, master our product line, and grow with the company over the long haul.

About Modern Driveline

For over 25 years, Modern Driveline has been the go-to source for manual transmission conversion systems. We specialize in 5 and 6-speed overdrive packages for hot rods, kit cars, customs, classic trucks, and muscle cars across all major manufacturers. Our customers count on us for complete, application-specific solutions backed by real technical expertise — not call-center scripts. When someone calls Modern Driveline, they talk to a gearhead who actually knows the difference between a T5 and a T56.

The Role

As our Inside Sales Representative, you’ll be the first voice customers hear when they’re ready to ditch the slushbox and row their own gears. You’ll guide them through component selection, build accurate quotes, and make sure every order ships out right the first time. This is a sales role, but it’s a technical sales role — your product knowledge is what closes the deal.

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Overtime available.

Compensation: Competitive salary based on experience.

What You’ll Do

•       Field inbound sales and technical calls, emails, and web inquiries from customers nationwide

•       Listen to what customers are building, then recommend the right transmission, clutch, hydraulic, and driveline components

•       Build detailed, accurate quotes and estimates

•       Enter and process sales orders, then coordinate with our shipping team for fulfillment

•       Follow up on open quotes and keep customer records up to date

•       Represent Modern Driveline at occasional trade shows and industry events

What You Bring

Required

•       Working knowledge of manual transmissions, clutches, flywheels, hydraulic clutch systems, and basic driveline geometry

•       Clear, professional phone and written communication — and the patience to walk a first-time builder through their project

•       Proficiency with Windows 10 or later, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word, and QuickBooks

•       High school diploma

•       Ability to juggle multiple open quotes and orders without losing accuracy or attention to detail

•       Genuine interest in long-term employment — we invest heavily in our people and want that investment to pay off for both sides

Preferred

•       Hands-on experience with manual transmission swaps, clutch installations, or driveline work

•       Familiarity with classic, muscle car, hot rod, kit car, or truck platforms

•       Microsoft Teams experience

•       College degree

Training That Actually Trains You

We don’t hand you a binder and wish you luck. New hires receive specialized in-person, hands-on training directly from our technical team — including time on the shop floor learning how our transmissions, clutches, and hydraulic systems actually go together. You’ll handle the parts, see the installations, and understand the why behind every recommendation you make to a customer. By the time you’re on the phones solo, you’ll know our product line cold.

Why Modern Driveline

•       401(k) with employer match to grow your retirement

•       Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance

•       Generous paid time off for real work-life balance

•       Specialized in-person and hands-on training from people who’ve built these systems for decades

•       A team of genuine car people — your enthusiasm for the hobby is an asset here, not a distraction

•       We invest in long-term team members and value the careers built here

Ready to Get Started?

If you’re a self-starter with a wrench in one hand and a phone in the other — and you’re looking for a place to build a career, not just a job — we want to hear from you. Submit your resume and a short note about your automotive background to kim@moderndriveline.com. Bonus points if you tell us what’s in your driveway.
