Job description

The Choice is managing a direct hire search for our client- an organization that recognizes and brings together distinguished nursing leaders to advance health equity and policy.


The Policy Assistant is an exciting entry level position that will provide robust administrative and programmatic assistance for the organizationโ€™s policy work, including the Policy Advisory Council, Standing Committees, Expert Forums, steering committees, task forces, and other policy initiatives.


Position level: Entry Level

Office: Located in downtown DC, very walkable to all Metro lines.

Schedule: Monday-Friday standard hours, 2 days a week required in office.

Salary: $57,000


Required Qualifications:

  • Completed Bachelorโ€™s degree. Degree focus areas related to healthcare and public policy is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a small team.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, Canva.
  • Some previous experience using a membership CRM. Any experience using YourMembership/Hivebrite would be a very large plus.
  • Previous experience with mail merges, web/email searches, and database management preferred.


Job Duties:

  • Monitor the Federal Register and other agency updates; summarize items relevant to the organizationโ€™s policy agenda for the Chief Policy Officer (CPO).
  • Research and track legislation, regulatory actions, reports, and other policy-related information.
  • Coordinate logistics for the Policy Advisory Council, Policy Standing Committees, and
  • Expert Forums: communications, meeting minutes, scheduling, and ad hoc convenings.
  • Coordinate bimonthly meetings with Expert Forum moderators, prepare minutes and reports for the Board.
  • Organize policy dialogues and convenings of Fellows and ad hoc groups to develop policy responses.
  • Prepare policy dashboards to illustrate the organizationโ€™s impact in collaboration with the CPO.
  • Compile content for the monthly policy newsletter.
  • Coordinate the Board review process for policy papers and oversee submissions.
  • Assist with pocket cards and website updates.
  • Act as liaison for Fellows and administrative functions related to the collaboration
  • platform, HiveBrite.
  • Monitor and coordinate updates to the policy section of the website
  • Provide administrative assistance to the CPO (scheduling, correspondence, etc.).
  • Create and maintain the annual policy position log documenting federal actions taken by the organization.
  • Maintain filing systems, electronic databases, dashboards, reports, and spreadsheets for the policy department.
  • Draft nomination, congratulatory, thank-you, and invitation letters as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
