Position Summary
Join a vibrant campus community whose excellence is reflected in its diversity and student success. West Chester University of Pennsylvania Facilities Division invites applicants for the vacant position of Custodial Worker 1.
The shift available is Sunday to Thursday from 10:30 p.m.- 6:30 a.m.

As part of this community, the Facilities Division designs, constructs and maintains a dynamic, safe, and sustainable campus to continually advance its nationally benchmarked living and learning community. This position is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of campus by vacuuming, mopping and waxing floors, cleaning carpets; emptying waste containers; cleaning restrooms, shower rooms, classrooms, offices, elevators, studies, hallways, stairwells, steps and lobbies; replacing light bulbs and fluorescent tubes; and removing snow and ice in all doorways, including walks leading to buildings.
The ideal candidate is professional, punctual, has an eye for detail and can follow instructions through proper communication while working with little supervision.
The Facilities team values effort and pride in a job well done. Experience with various cleaning techniques, supplies and machines is helpful but not required. WCU will provide training.
As a member of the Facilities Divisional staff, this position is deemed essential. Essential employees must remain or report to work during partial or full day closings of the University due to hazardous road conditions, emergency circumstances or for other reasons.
Minimum Qualifications
No previous experience or training required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to read and understand written materials
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to learn the operation and care of vacuum cleaners, scrubbing machines polishing machines, and other janitorial equipment
  • Ability to follow instructions and to exercise care in the use of cleaning materials
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to perform duties while bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, reaching and climbing
  • Sufficient physical strength to work at custodial tasks including ability to work from an eight-foot stepladder

Salary and benefits are dictated by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) collective bargaining agreement.
