DescriptionResponsible for advising students in both an individual and group format regarding their educational needs, transfer and career goals; advising students on test interpretation; teaching students techniques for accessing information; and consulting with faculty and staff on student and academic issues.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities- Advise students in the areas of academic options and requirements within the context of an academic setting.
- Facilitate group workshops and developmental programming which will enable students to choose appropriate educational, transfer and career goals.
- Assist students in accessing appropriate educational planning information and resources.
- Review competitive application processes with students for RCBC programs and transfer programs and advise based on student interest and aptitude.
- Conduct pre-enrollment group meetings for newly admitted students to facilitate choices of appropriate course and program selection.
- Consult with instructional and administrative staff on issues and concerns that impact student life and the learning environment.
- Participate in and contribute to in-service training activities, which may improve advising activities.
- Refer students to professional agencies or authorities when circumstances require such action (e.g., medical, psychological, disability, etc.).
- Refer students to appropriate offices and services within the College to address their needs.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum QualificationsEducation Required:Bachelor's degree in an academic discipline, counseling, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
Experience Required:Work experience in higher education, preferably within a community college setting.
Skills/Abilities /Knowledge /Other Requirements:- Ability to mediate differences between student expectations and student experiences.
- Understanding and knowledge of student and institutional resources.
- Demonstrated intrusive counseling skills in actively monitoring student progress.
- Ability to be an advocate for constructive change.
- Ability to use and interpret academic development tests.
- Knowledge of academic advising principles within an open-admissions environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Computer skills in basic word processing, e-mail, web, and systems-related functions.
Additional InformationINSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS:Collaborates with department members and/or the Compliance, Assessment and Research team to support planning, assessment, data collection and reporting for continuous improvement of the college.
