Job description

Job Title: Mailroom Assistant
Duration: 7+ Months (Potential for Extension)
Location: Boston, MA 02128
 


Position Overview

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Mailroom Assistant to support mail and central services operations across all Massport facilities. The role involves mail handling, package processing, vehicle upkeep, inventory delivery, and basic maintenance support. A strong focus on safety, accuracy, and customer service is essential.


Key ResponsibilitiesMail Services
  • Collect and deliver mail to and from the U.S. Post Office.

  • Weigh, meter, and prepare outgoing mail in accordance with postal regulations.

  • Sort and distribute incoming mail and packages across departments.

  • Receive and log packages from carriers (FedEx, UPS, vendors, etc.) into the mail tracking system.

  • Inspect incoming items for damage or suspicious content and report concerns to the supervisor.

  • Process outbound UPS shipments using the UPS online system.

  • Provide backup support to the Supervisor of General Services when required.

Central Services Support
  • Perform routine maintenance on Central Services pool vehicles (fueling, cleaning, vacuuming).

  • Prepare and fulfill inventory supply requests (paper, water, coffee, toner).

  • Deliver requested supplies to designated departments.

  • Assist with basic copier maintenance and troubleshooting.

  • Coordinate department courier pickups and deliveries.

  • Perform other related duties as needed.

Secondary Duties
  • Conduct light cleaning and basic facility maintenance.

  • Support minor repair work and assist with moving office furniture, boxes, and other materials.


Qualifications
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Basic literacy, math, and manual skills required.

  • Experience: 1–3 years of experience in an office or mailroom environment preferred.

  • Skills:

    • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

    • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a timely manner

    • Good interpersonal and communication skills

    • Familiarity with postal systems and package tracking software is a plus
