Job Description
PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
The Mail Services Tech is responsible for the efficient and timely collection, sorting, delivery, and processing of mail and packages for the college and provides operational support to the Property Services team. This position ensures reliable and courteous service to all faculty, staff, and students, acting as a crucial link in the institution's communication and operational infrastructure.
This role works collaboratively across LSC campuses on special projects, recommend process improvement, and implement best practices in standard operating procedures (SOPs) across functional units.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Receives, sorts, and prepares all incoming and outgoing mail and packages, including USPS, intercampus, and courier deliveries (UPS, FedEx, Amazon, DHL)
  • Arranges transportation and delivery of mail/packages across campus and to external locations, ensuring timely and accurate distribution
  • Operates mailroom equipment (e.g., postage meters, scanners) and ensure proper handling of sensitive/confidential materials in compliance with postal regulations
  • Maintains tracking systems for package flow, delivery logs, and monthly volume reports; update mail accounting and tracking databases
  • May be required to drive college vehicles to deliver mail and packages, plan efficient routes, and obtain delivery confirmations/signatures as needed
  • If applicable, conducts daily inspections and preventive maintenance on assigned vehicles; maintain mileage logs and ensure safe operation
  • Keeps mailroom areas clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards
  • Coordinates with departments and external entities to resolve delivery discrepancies, damages, or claims
  • Assists in training new staff and provide troubleshooting support for mailroom equipment and systems.
  • Assists with general maintenance tasks, including simple repairs, auction preparation, and property/services inspections
  • Supports event setup and takedown and assist tech teams with weather-related recovery efforts
  • Delivers copy paper to designated workspaces across campus
  • Assists with administrative duties including CMMS updates, report generation, and account management in mail services databases
  • Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned

  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
    • Knowledge of mailroom operations, procedures, and relevant postal regulations (ex., USPS)
    • Ability to operate mailroom equipment and computer systems (e.g., mail meters, scanning software, delivery apps, GPS)
    • Ability to operate equipment such as forklift and pallet jack
    • Strong organizational skills to sort, track, and manage mail and packages efficiently
    • Excellent communication and customer service skills, including the ability to interact with a diverse population
    • Attention to detail and accuracy in sorting, tracking, and processing mail
    • Adaptability and problem-solving skills to handle unexpected situations
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
    • Must be capable of performing labor-intensive work such as long periods of standing; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items, such as boxes
    • Physical ability to lift and carry heavy items (up to 50 lbs. consistently and potentially up to 75 lbs. occasionally), stand, walk, and drive for extended periods
    WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
    • Work in various indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to heat, cold, and inclement weather
    • May regularly travel to different LSC locations
    • May be fully reassigned to other LSC locations if necessary
    • May need to work weekends and untraditional hours if necessary
    • This position is classified as an essential employee, which means the individual may be required to report to work during college closures or emergencies to support recovery and reopening efforts
    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • High school diploma or GED and at least 3 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Valid Texas Driver's License and clear driving record
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Associate degree or higher
    • At least 5 years of related work experience
    • Certified Forklift Operator

    Salary
    Hiring salary range is $36,057 - $41,466
    Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education.
