Job description

Job Summary: The Epic Analyst will be responsible for the implementation, optimization, and support of a specific Epic application module or functional area across our integrated health system. This role requires strong analytical skills, in-depth knowledge of clinical or operational workflows, and proven expertise in Epic build and configuration.

                The Epic Analyst works closely with clinical stakeholders, departmental operations staff, and other IT teams to ensure the Epic system meets the needs of our providers and supports high-quality patient care, safety, and efficiency.

Responsibilities: 

I. System Design, Build, and Implementation

  • Module Expertise: Develop, configure, and maintain the assigned Epic application module (e.g., Inpatient, Revenue Cycle, Orders, Cadence, Radiant, Willow, etc.) based on functional specifications and business requirements.
  • Workflow Analysis: Collaborate with subject-matter experts (SMEs) to analyze, document, and validate clinical or business workflows. Translate complex operational needs into effective, stable, and user-friendly Epic build decisions.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive system build documentation, functional specifications, and decision logs to ensure transparency and continuity.

II. Testing and Quality Assurance

  • Testing: Develop detailed test plans and scripts for unit, integration, and user acceptance testing (UAT). Execute testing and manage the timely resolution of defects and issues identified during the testing phases.
  • Go-Live Support: Provide at-the-elbow support and serve as a key resource during system upgrades, new module implementations, and facility go-lives.

III. Optimization and Support

  • Tier 2/3 Support: Serve as a high-level troubleshooting resource for end-users, analyzing root causes, and resolving complex technical and workflow-related problems within the assigned Epic module.
  • System Maintenance: Manage routine system maintenance, including applying system updates, new feature releases, and general patching, ensuring continuous operational stability.
  • Optimization: Proactively identify and implement system optimization opportunities to improve user efficiency, enhance patient safety, and maximize the value derived from the Epic EHR.

IV. Regulatory Compliance and Training Support

  • Compliance: Ensure the Epic build and workflows comply with organizational policies, industry standards, and relevant regulatory requirements (e.g., Joint Commission, HIPAA, CMS/MIPS).
  • Collaboration: Partner with the training team to validate training content and provide subject matter expertise for end-user education.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2+ years of hands-on experience as an Epic Analyst, Builder, or Consultant in a hospital or integrated healthcare environment, required
  • Experience supporting multiple facilities or an integrated delivery network (IDN), preferred
  • Experience with Epic reporting tools (e.g., Clarity, Caboodle, SlicerDicer), preferred
  • Additional Epic certifications in related modules, preferred

Education:  

  • A bachelor's degree in Health Informatics, Computer Science, Nursing, or a related clinical or technical field is required.

Licenses / Certifications:  

  • Epic Module Certification in job-related module(s) is required to be obtained within 6 months of hire and renewed quadrennial
  • Current Epic Certification in at least one Epic application module (specific module certification may be required upon hiring depending on team needs), preferred
  • Additional Epic certifications in related modules, preferred

Other:

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, and the capacity to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
