Job description
The Manager - Epic Clinical Readiness is responsible for the leadership, coordination, and oversight of Epic
related clinical end user education across the organization, including training programs, instructional design,
clinical readiness activities, super user programs, and adoption support. This role ensures that Epic training and
adoption support safe, efficient, and effective clinical workflows while aligning with organizational standards,
patient safety goals, and Epic best practices. The Manager leads Epic training readiness teams and serves as a
key liaison between clinical leadership, information technology, training teams, and operational stakeholders.
This role bridges system functionality and end user practice by translating Epic build and workflow decisions into
effective education, adoption strategies, and ongoing support.
Responsibilities
- Provides leadership and operational oversight for Epic end user readiness education functions across the organization. Establishes and maintains standardized approaches to Epic education, support, and workflow adoption. Ensures training activities align with Epic build standards, governance decisions, and clinical priorities.
- Directly manages principal trainers and related education resources. Oversees staffing models, onboarding, performance management, and professional development for the team. Ensures team members maintain required Epic certifications, proficiencies, and training credentials.
- Develops and oversees Epic training strategies for new implementations, upgrades, and optimization
initiatives. Ensures timely development, delivery, and evaluation of role based Epic training curricula. Partners with Epic Application Managers to ensure training reflects current system build and workflows. Leads efforts to continuously improve training effectiveness based on user feedback, adoption metrics, and performance outcomes. - Serves as the educational leader in support of Epic workflow design, optimization, and adoption. Partners with clinicians and operational leaders to assess workflow challenges and identify opportunities for system and practice improvement. Supports change management by proactively addressing adoption risks and education gaps.
- Participates in Epic governance, change control, and clinical councils. Ensures education practices support regulatory, accreditation, and patient safety requirements. Promotes consistent documentation, workflow, and training standards across departments and facilities. Identifies and escalates risks related to system adoption, user readiness, or clinical safety.
- Collaborates closely with Epic Application Managers (Inpatient, Outpatient, Ancillary) to ensure alignment between build, workflows, and training. Partners with operational, clinical, and IT leaders to support enterprise Epic initiatives. Serves as an escalation point for Epic education related issues requiring leadership resolution.
- Maintains responsibility for department's operational excellence; ensures department delivers quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and professional standards.
- Manages team members, which includes orientation, development and evaluation of team members, and monitoring the provision of delivering quality services. Participates in the recruiting, interviewing, and selecting of team members following policies, guidelines and applicable laws. Evaluates team member's performance relative to job goals and requirements. Provides coaching to staff, recommends education programs, and ensures adherence to internal policies and standards.
- Maintains responsibility for the fiscal management of department and assures proper utilization of
organization's financial resources. - Effectively communicates departmental, organization, and industry information to staff.
- Assists in other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the department and organization.
- May be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.
Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in Epic or other EHR clinical systems, informatics, education, or
healthcare IT roles, required. - 1 year of leadership or supervisory experience in informatics, training, or application support, required.
- 1 year of experience supporting Epic implementations, upgrades, or large-scale optimization
initiatives, preferred. - 1 year of experience leading clinical end user education teams in a health system
environment, preferred. - 1 year of experience in nursing, allied health, clinical education, or informatics, preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in education, clinical informatics, information systems, or other related field, required.
- Epic certification and/or ability to attain Epic certification(s) in assigned module(s) within a defined timeframe determined at the time of hire.
As part of our selection process, candidates being considered for this position will be required to complete a Sphinx Assessment, which is used to evaluate job-related competencies and determine overall suitability for the role. Successful completion of the assessment is a required component of the hiring process.
This position also requires active participation in various phases of the Epic application lifecycle, including but not limited to implementation, go-live support, stabilization, optimization, and system upgrades. Candidates must be willing and able to accommodate the demands associated with these activities, which may include:
- Working additional hours outside of regularly scheduled business hours, including evenings and weekends, as project needs dictate.
- Participating in on-site go-live and support activities across multiple organizational locations.
- Traveling occasionally for Epic training, certification, project meetings, or other work-related purposes, including travel outside of the state.
- Traveling between organizational facilities to provide operational, project, and end-user support.
Candidates should be prepared to maintain flexibility in their schedules to support critical project milestones and organizational operational needs.
