What is an Epic internship?

An Epic Internship refers to an internship program at Epic Systems, a major healthcare software company based in Wisconsin. These internships offer students hands-on experience working on real-world projects in areas such as software development, project management, and user experience. Interns gain exposure to the healthcare technology industry and have opportunities to collaborate with experienced professionals. The program is known for its challenging work, supportive environment, and strong focus on learning and personal growth.

What types of projects can I expect to work on during an Epic internship, and how are teams typically structured?

As an Epic intern, you can expect to work on meaningful, real-world projects that directly impact Epic’s software and clients. Projects might include developing new features, improving system performance, or assisting with user experience enhancements. Interns usually join small, collaborative teams that include full-time software engineers, project managers, and sometimes other interns. You'll receive mentorship from experienced professionals, attend regular team meetings, and have opportunities to present your work. This team-oriented environment helps interns learn quickly and build valuable professional relationships.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Epic intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Epic Intern, you typically need strong analytical skills, a background in computer science or related fields, and an eagerness to learn new technologies. Familiarity with software development tools, programming languages, and Epic's electronic health record (EHR) systems is often beneficial. Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities help interns collaborate effectively and adapt to a fast-paced environment. These skills are crucial for contributing to impactful healthcare technology projects and supporting the success of the Epic team.
