FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Job Status: Seasonal/Temporary
Season: Summer through Fall/Winter 2026
Schedule: Flexible days and hours, up to 29 hours weekly.
Hourly Compensation: $15.00

And thanks to the benevolence of its founders, as well as the continued support of its members, TMA remains a privately endowed, non-profit institution and opens its collection to the public, free of charge.
SUMMARY
The primary responsibility of the Seasonal Grounds Assistant is to help maintain the Toledo Museum of Art's campus grounds in a condition of excellence, assisting the Facilities department with various grounds-keeping tasks involving the care and maintenance of turf and grounds.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
The Seasonal Grounds Assistant performs the following essential duties and ensures quality visitor experiences.
  • Performs a variety of tasks involving the care and maintenance of turf and grounds.
  • Performs general labor inside and outside of the Museum including handling materials and supplies, moving equipment.
  • May include the operation of hand operated landscaping tools, weed eaters and mowers.
  • Works for extended periods of time at manual turf and grounds work.
  • Regularly collects and properly disposes of grounds refuse.
  • Responsible for the timely completion of work orders.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needs arise.

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE, COMPETENCIES AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of grounds and general landscaping practices.
  • Ability to safely operate small mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to perform physical labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather and working conditions.
  • Consistent and punctual attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and follow directions and learn from co-workers.
  • Must know and adhere to safety practices, applying them in both standard and unusual situations.
  • Must be a responsible self-starter, be able to follow instructions delivered in verbal or written form.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Maintains a current valid driver's license.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Any combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
