They work in various industries, including marketing, finance, business development, and consulting. Their main responsibility is to identify opportunities, anticipate potential challenges, and create actionable strategies that help organizations achieve their objectives. Strategists often collaborate with different teams to ensure the successful implementation of their plans and measure results to refine future strategies.

What is the role of a strategist in an organization?

While a strategist can work in a number of industries with varying roles, generally this position improves organization, handles goal-setting, and conducts the planning required to achieve those goals. Working in this position, you develop strategic plans based on research and data you’ve gathered. Many positions require you to examine a business first to understand their goals and how to achieve these goals more efficiently. Other duties include staying on top of changing trends in your client’s industry, brainstorming with other team members and management, identifying problems, and presenting findings to clients and higher-ups in the company.

What skills and qualifications do successful strategists have?

To thrive as a Strategist, you need strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and a background in business, marketing, or related fields, often supported by a bachelor’s or master’s degree. Familiarity with data analysis tools, market research platforms, and presentation software is typically required. Exceptional communication, creativity, and adaptability are important soft skills for influencing stakeholders and navigating complex challenges. These skills enable Strategists to develop effective plans and drive organizational success in competitive markets.

How does a strategist typically collaborate with other departments within an organization?

Strategists frequently work cross-functionally, partnering with teams such as marketing, product development, sales, and executive leadership to align on organizational goals and develop actionable plans. This collaboration often involves leading workshops, facilitating discussions to identify opportunities, and ensuring that strategic initiatives are understood and implemented across departments. Effective communication and the ability to translate complex data into clear recommendations are essential, as strategists must bridge diverse perspectives to drive consensus and results. Regular meetings and status updates are common, helping ensure all stakeholders remain informed and engaged throughout the strategic process.

Do strategists make good money?

Strategists typically earn competitive salaries that vary based on industry, experience, and location. According to industry data, the median annual salary for a strategist ranges from $70,000 to $120,000, with higher earnings possible for those with advanced skills or in senior roles. Many strategists also receive bonuses and benefits that enhance overall compensation.

Is a strategist an entry level job?

A strategist role is typically not entry-level and usually requires several years of experience in areas like marketing, business analysis, or consulting. Entry-level positions may be titled as assistant or junior strategist, but the full strategist role generally demands advanced skills, strategic thinking, and industry knowledge. Certifications or a relevant degree can also be beneficial for advancing into this position.

Job description

Company Description

We're a performance marketing agency built for DTC and ecommerce brands. We run paid, email, SEO, and CRO as one growth engine, so we're not hiring someone who only knows one or two channels.

We're fully remote, and we're AI-native in how we operate, not in how we talk about it. Our team runs on an internal AI toolkit that does real work every day. That frees the people here to spend their time on strategy and judgment instead of manual execution.

We hire people who get stuff done, and we reward results. If that's you, keep reading.

Job Description

Own client strategy across channels, grow your book, and use AI to get yourself out of execution.

You're the person a founder trusts with their growth. You set the direction across every channel and catch the risks and openings early. The AI workflows you build let you run more accounts than one strategist normally could.

You forecast where an account is headed and then hit the number. Founders can check your track record on that.

What This Role Is Not

  • This is not a single-channel media buying role. You won't spend your day in one ad account pushing bids.
  • This is not a reactive role. You hunt for opportunities instead of waiting to be told about them.
  • This is not reporting. Pulling numbers into a deck is not a strategy.
  • This is not "I use ChatGPT sometimes." You build workflows and ship them.

What You'll Own

  • Cross-channel strategy. You set the plan across paid social, paid search, email and retention, CRO, and SEO and AIO. Where the next dollar goes, and why, is your call.
  • Client relationships. You own the relationship end to end. To the client, you're the strategic voice in the room and their consigliere when the pressure is on. They stay because the work is good.
  • Marrying the Relationship between Brand & Performance. You understand the power of using both sides of your brain - this means that you craft campaigns that both perform well financially & can also build the power of the brand via awareness campaigns, savvy storytelling & deep creative insights.
  • A proactive cadence. Every client hears real, specific recommendations from you (without being asked)
  • Business outcomes, not vanity metrics. You tie performance to revenue, CAC, and LTV, and can explain what a CPM move does to the P&L.
  • AI workflows that remove mundane work. You build the systems that take manual work off your plate, then spend the reclaimed hours on strategy.
  • New campaigns and tests. You spot what's worth testing next, cook up the hypothesis and deliver real post test analyses that drive future tests.

Your First 12 Months

  • Retention. You show great client NPS scores, 90%+ retention and you hit the forecasts you set.
  • Account growth. You grow the accounts you own through smarter strategy and mutual trust.
  • AI fluency. You are stellar at displaying fact checking, critical thinking, judgement & strategy via AI (this means you don’t simply copy and paste AI answers to any
Qualifications

Who You Are

  • 4+ in performance or growth marketing, with hands-on depth across more than one platform (paid social, paid search, email, and the channels next to them).

  • You've owned client relationships end to end, from the strategy down to the growth.

  • You connect paid and organic performance to pipeline and revenue

  • You've built AI workflows and shipped them. Come ready to show them.

  • You communicate clearly and can translate performance data for a founder who doesn't live in ad accounts.

  • Experience in an agency setting or working with D2C brands a major plus

  • You're self-motivated, you take feedback well, and the status quo bugs you.

How We Work

We're fully remote. We're results-driven, and we're candid with each other. We give real feedback, and we expect you to want it. We don't micromanage, and we don't carry passengers.

Additional Information
  • Competitive Pay: based on experience and location.
  • 100% Remote & Flexible Work: Work from anywhere. Flexible scheduling and a global team.
  • Paid Time Off: 24 PTOs per year with monthly health stipends
  • Supportive Team Culture: Inclusive, collaborative remote team with ongoing learning opportunities.
  • Learn more here than anywhere else: we offer strategic, tactical and growth oriented mentorship for your career (and beyond)
  • Passionate, Adaptable, Collaborative: be surrounded with people who are passionate about growing themselves and brands.
