Job Description:

The Senior HRIS Analyst, Payroll, Time Tracking & Absence is responsible for the administration, optimization, and strategic support of Workday Payroll, Time Tracking, and Absence solutions. This role serves as the primary subject matter expert for payroll-related system configuration, business processes, compliance requirements, reporting, and enhancements.
The position partners closely with Payroll, Human Resources, Benefits, Finance, Information Technology, and business stakeholders to ensure Workday solutions effectively support operational objectives, compliance requirements, and an exceptional employee experience. The Senior HRIS Analyst leads system enhancements, release management activities, testing efforts, and continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring data integrity and system effectiveness.
This role provides functional leadership, drives stakeholder engagement, and serves as a trusted advisor on payroll and workforce management technology solutions.
Primary Duties
  • Serve as the primary functional administrator and subject matter expert for Workday Payroll, Time Tracking, and Absence.
  • Lead the administration, configuration, and optimization of payroll, time tracking, and absence management solutions, ensuring reliability, scalability, and data accuracy.
  • Design, configure, and implement system enhancements, business process improvements, and automation opportunities aligned with business needs.
  • Partner with Payroll Operations, HR, Benefits, Finance, and IT to gather requirements and translate business needs into effective system solutions.
  • Lead testing efforts for system enhancements, Workday releases, integrations, and regulatory updates, including development of test plans and coordination of user acceptance testing (UAT).
  • Evaluate Workday biannual releases and identify opportunities to improve business processes, compliance, operational efficiency, and user experience.
  • Develop and maintain advanced reports, dashboards, and analytics to support payroll operations, workforce management, compliance, and decision-making.
  • Analyze payroll and workforce data trends to identify risks, opportunities, and improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for payroll, time tracking, and absence-related system issues, leading troubleshooting and resolution efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations, company policies, data privacy requirements, and internal controls.
  • Maintain documentation for system configuration, processes, procedures, and governance standards.
  • Collaborate with external vendors, implementation partners, and AMS providers to support enhancements and issue resolution.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Lead cross-functional projects related to Payroll, Time Tracking, and Absence functionality.
  • Support payroll processing activities by ensuring accurate system configuration and integration performance.
  • Facilitate stakeholder workshops and requirements-gathering sessions.
  • Identify and recommend new functionality and best practices to improve employee and manager experiences.
  • Develop training materials and knowledge resources to support user adoption and self-service capabilities.
  • Mentor junior HRIS analysts and provide guidance on Workday best practices.
  • Establish standards and governance for Payroll, Time Tracking, and Absence configuration, reporting, and data management.
  • Participate in HR technology strategy discussions and roadmap planning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Information Systems, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Five (5) or more years of HRIS experience, including significant experience supporting payroll and workforce management systems.
  • Three (3) or more years of hands-on Workday Payroll, Time Tracking, and/or Absence experience preferred.
  • Experience supporting payroll system implementations, enhancements, upgrades, and release management activities.
  • Experience with reporting, analytics, testing, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Or any combination of education and experience that would provide an equivalent background.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Advanced knowledge of Workday Payroll, Time Tracking, and Absence functionality.
  • Strong understanding of payroll operations, payroll compliance, and workforce management processes.
  • Experience with Workday business process configuration, reporting, calculated fields, and security concepts.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex business and system requirements.
  • Expertise in system configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and process improvement.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to influence decisions and provide consultative guidance across functional teams.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and system integrity.

  • Work is primarily performed in an office or hybrid work environment.
  • Regular collaboration with Payroll, Human Resources, Finance, Information Technology, and business stakeholders.
  • Occasional interaction with manufacturing and operational environments to support workforce management and payroll initiatives.
  • Exposure to moderate noise levels when visiting operational areas.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required when in production areas.
