Job Title: Business Development Executive

Location: Houston, TX
Job Type: Full-Time

Our client is looking for a driven Business Development Executive to help grow our utility construction business.

This is an entrepreneurial role for someone who can identify opportunities, build relationships, bring in new work, and help position the company for long-term growth.

We are not looking for someone who simply waits for leads. We need someone who can actively pursue customers, understand the utility construction market, and help turn relationships into real projects.

About Us

This is a Houston-based underground utility construction contractor specializing in horizontal directional drilling, excavation, conduit installation, cable pulling, fiber work, structure installation, and emergency utility work.

We serve telecom, utility, commercial, and public-sector customers across the Houston metro area and surrounding markets.

Responsibilities

The Business Development Executive will help drive new business and support company growth through sales, relationship building, and marketing efforts.

Responsibilities include:

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities in the utility construction industry

  • Build and maintain relationships with general contractors, utility companies, telecom providers, electrical contractors, municipalities, and commercial customers

  • Follow up on leads, bid opportunities, referrals, and potential partnerships

  • Develop a pipeline of prospects and track sales activity

  • Assist with estimating, proposals, capability statements, customer presentations, and prequalification packages

  • Help expand the company's presence with existing customers and new accounts

  • Represent the company professionally at meetings, networking events, industry events, and customer visits

  • Assist with marketing efforts, including website content, social media, project photos, brochures, email outreach, and company branding

  • Work directly with ownership to develop sales strategy and target markets

  • Help identify higher-value opportunities in telecom, electric, gas, public works, commercial EV charging, and other utility-related sectors

Requirements

  • Experience in the utility construction industry is required

  • Experience with underground construction, directional drilling, telecom, electric, gas, civil construction, or infrastructure work is strongly preferred

  • Prior business development, sales, estimating, project coordination, or customer relationship experience preferred

  • Must understand how construction customers, contractors, primes, and utility providers operate

  • Strong communication and follow-up skills

  • Comfortable making calls, setting meetings, visiting customers, and developing relationships

  • Ability to work independently without constant supervision

  • Entrepreneurial mindset and desire to help grow a company

  • Basic computer skills, including email, spreadsheets, CRM or lead tracking tools

  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate understands the utility construction world and knows how to create opportunities. This person should be comfortable talking to customers, finding decision-makers, helping prepare proposals, and pushing deals forward.

This role is a good fit for someone who wants more than a standard sales job. We want someone who can help build the company's customer base, improve our market presence, and grow with the business.

Compensation

Compensation will depend on experience and qualifications. This role offers a base salary plus performance-based commission.

Why Join Us

  • Entrepreneurial role with direct access to ownership

  • Opportunity to help shape company growth

  • Established underground utility contractor with room to expand

  • Houston-based work with strong demand for utility infrastructure

  • Ability to grow into a larger leadership role as the company grows

How to Apply

Please submit your resume and a brief summary of your experience in utility construction, sales, business development, or marketing.
