Job description

Overview
The Senior Purchasing Manager is responsible for overseeing all purchasing process functions for Mastec Renewables. Develops, improves, and maintains processes and systems utilized by the company while coordinating with stakeholders to ensure procurement activities are effective. Understands the life cycle of procurement activities and assists in processes throughout. Provides technical support and assistance to strategic sourcing and purchasing teams. Develop systems and reports that support procurement’s key performance indicator efforts. This position collaborates closely with internal teams, suppliers, and vendors, while maintaining high standards of compliance, efficiency, and continuous improvement.

Location: This position can be located at any of our office locations: Phoenix, AZ; Clinton, IN; Indianapolis, IN; Centennial, CO; Irving, TX; or Fargo, ND. Based on the experience and skillset of the individual identified, we are open to a remote-based role with ability to travel to our office and field site locations to support events or department activities.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Lead and mentor the Field Purchasing Manager and Category Buyers, ensuring effective execution of procurement processes
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, provide coaching, and foster professional development opportunities within the team
  • Ensure the Procurement team is well-supported and equipped to meet organizational objectives
  • Develop and implement effective procurement strategies that align with the company’s business objectives and growth goals
  • Drive and enforce document control efforts to ensure all purchase orders, approvals, and supporting documents are correctly saved in Procore
  • Ensure the repository of company negotiated agreements including master vendor agreements is maintained
  • Coordinate with company stakeholders related to updates to master templates standard procedures and agreements and ensure that procurement is informed of these updates
  • Ensure all procurement activities comply with company policies, industry regulations, and legal requirements
  • Provide contract negotiation guidance to buyers utilizing structured company guidelines
  • Provide direction on proper contract formats to utilize for the requested scope of work
  • Work closely with Compliance and Legal teams to review and maintain contracts, purchase orders, and other procurement-related documentation
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to procurement, ensuring continuity of supply and operational success
  • Continuously evaluate and improve procurement processes to increase efficiency and effectiveness across all areas of procurement
  • Work with IT teams to implement procurement software and tools that streamline operations and enhance business continuity
  • Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of procurement activities, including purchase orders, invoices, and inventory levels
  • Collaborate with other departments (e.g., Finance, Operations, Compliance, HR, and IT) to ensure seamless procurement processes
  • Provide clear communication and regular updates to senior management regarding purchasing performance, key issues, and opportunities
  • Lead weekly meetings and provide guidance to the team on current procurement challenges, opportunities, and priorities
  • Manage staffing levels within the Purchasing team, ensuring proper allocation of resources for project needs
  • Support HR in resolving staffing issues related to Purchasing and Field Buying teams, ensuring adequate support for operational needs
  • Provide ongoing training and development for the Purchasing team to ensure team capabilities remain strong and aligned with company objectives

Qualifications

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain, or related field
  • Seven+ years relevant experience in purchasing or procurement, related to construction industry
  • Previous experience with supply chain and inventory management
  • Experience leading and managing others
  • Experience negotiating; Terms & Conditions (T&C’s), Prime Contracts, Master Service Agreements (MSA’s), Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA’s), Assignment of responsibilities, Liquidated Damages, Insurance & Bonding requirements, etc.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward the Company’s Zero Injury principles
  • Strong computer skills and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  •  Ability to interact professionally with all levels of the organization and with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong knowledge and the ability to teach others use of procurement software systems and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems
  • Interpret, follow and explain a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
