Job Description
The Production Scheduler is responsible for developing, maintaining, and executing an effective production plan that ensures customer required ship dates are met while maximizing manufacturing efficiency and aligning with Amcor's operational and financial objectives. This role prioritizes molds, machines, and work centers to support safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations.
The Production Scheduler evaluates demand, capacity, inventory positions, and operational constraints to determine the most efficient course of action. Scheduling decisions directly influence purchasing, inventory levels, labor utilization, and service outcomes, making this role critical to overall site performance. The position operates under general supervision and reports to the Material Control Manager (or Supervisor of Scheduling and Inventory, as applicable).
Key Responsibilities
Production Scheduling & Planning
  • Develop, maintain, and execute a well-planned production schedule to meet customer ship date requirements
  • Prioritize molds, machines, and work orders to maximize machine efficiency and plant utilization
  • Enter, release, prioritize, re-sequence, increase, or decrease work orders across work centers to maintain schedule integrity
  • Run Order Processing for all scheduled work orders
  • Update and publish online production schedules daily
  • Modify production schedules as needed to address customer priorities, capacity constraints, and weekend or extended schedules
  • Ensure Not Scheduled time is recorded accurately

Inventory, MRP & Materials Management
  • Review MRP messages daily to identify open and upcoming production orders
  • Create and delete work orders to align production with demand
  • Maintain appropriate safety stock levels for finished goods to support the master production plan
  • Monitor inventory levels to ensure proper cycling of molds and printers
  • Prepare and execute run-out plans for slow-moving or discontinued inventory to minimize obsolete stock
  • Maintain master data for assigned planner items
  • Sub-parts lists to optimize material consumption and inventory utilization
  • Coordinate intercompany transfer planning and execution as required

Downtime & Operational Coordination
  • Manage planned downtime events such as holidays, shutdowns, and maintenance in coordination with Operations and Maintenance
  • Monitor and communicate unplanned downtime through Daily Line Update Reports
  • Work cross-functionally to adjust schedules in response to equipment availability, labor constraints, or supply interruptions
  • Coordinate outsourcing and subcontractor utilization as needed

Customer & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with Customer Service Representatives to acknowledge order dates and resolve order-related issues
  • Provide order status and production reports to Sales, Operations, and Supply Chain as required
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Shipping, and other departments to identify and support performance improvement initiatives

Capacity, Performance & Reporting
  • Provide management with capacity, utilization, and production planning insights for assigned work centers
  • Track, analyze, and support achievement of key performance indicators (KPIs), including:
    • Ship to Promise
    • Days on Hand (DOH)
    • Obsolete inventory
    • Production schedule variance
    • Order cycle time
    • Plant utilization
  • Provide analytical insight to support data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement

Systems, Tools & Continuous Improvement
  • Proficiently utilize ERP and scheduling tools, including JDE and Logility
  • Maintain data accuracy and integrity across scheduling, inventory, and order management systems
  • Assist Supply Chain Management with special assignments and initiatives
  • Support and maintain learning and development initiatives that enable internal skill growth

Safety, Quality & Compliance
  • Follow, promote, and enforce all Amcor safety, environmental, health, and quality standards
  • Ensure production schedules and planning activities support GMP compliance
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and operational discipline

Qualifications
Required
  • Proven experience in production scheduling within a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to solve problems using analysis, judgment, and creativity
  • Proficiency in computer-based scheduling, inventory, and reporting systems
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time-management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively across functions in a dynamic, fast-paced environment

Preferred
  • 2-3 years of experience in materials planning and inventory management or equivalent manufacturing experience
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Production manufacturing background
  • Exposure to Customer Service, Quality, Shipping, and Supply Chain operations
  • Experience using ERP/MRP systems (JDE preferred)
