CredentialsTypically requires a degree in manufacturing, supply chain, or related field; certifications like APICS CPIM are commonSimilar credentials; often holds certifications like APICS CPIM or CSCP
Work EnvironmentManufacturing facilities, production departmentsManufacturing or supply chain departments, planning offices
Industry UsageWidely used in manufacturing, industrial sectorsCommon in manufacturing, logistics, and supply chain industries

The Master Production Scheduler focuses on creating detailed schedules and coordinating production activities, while the Production Planner develops overall production plans and adjusts workflows. Both roles require similar credentials and work in manufacturing environments, but the MPS has a more detailed, execution-oriented scope.

How much do master production schedulers make in the US?

In the US, master production schedulers typically earn an average salary between $60,000 and $85,000 per year, depending on experience, industry, and location. Salaries can increase with certifications such as APICS CPIM and proficiency in production planning tools like ERP systems.

Do you need a degree to be a master production scheduler?

A degree is not strictly required to become a master production scheduler, but many employers prefer candidates with a bachelor's degree in fields like manufacturing, supply chain management, or business. Relevant skills such as proficiency with production planning software and understanding of manufacturing processes are also important for the role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a master production scheduler, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Master Production Scheduler, you need expertise in supply chain management, demand forecasting, and production planning, often supported by a degree in business, engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems such as SAP or Oracle and certifications like APICS CPIM are typically required. Strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills enable successful coordination across departments. These skills are crucial for optimizing production efficiency, minimizing costs, and ensuring on-time delivery in manufacturing environments.

What does a Master Production Scheduler do?

A Master Production Scheduler (MPS) develops and maintains production schedules to ensure that manufacturing processes meet customer demand while optimizing resources. They coordinate with production, inventory, and supply chain teams, often using planning software like ERP systems, to balance capacity and inventory levels. The role requires strong organizational skills and knowledge of manufacturing processes and demand forecasting.

How does a master production scheduler typically interact with other departments to ensure production goals are met?

A Master Production Scheduler regularly collaborates with teams from procurement, manufacturing, sales, and logistics to align production schedules with material availability and customer demand. This role often serves as a liaison, facilitating communication about changes in inventory levels, order priorities, or equipment status. By coordinating cross-functional meetings and updating schedules based on real-time data, the scheduler helps prevent bottlenecks and ensures smooth workflow across departments. Effective communication and adaptability are key to managing shifting priorities and maintaining production efficiency.

Job description

About the Role

Agility Robotics is seeking to hire a Master Production Scheduler to lead the creation of our Master Production Schedule, (MPS) in our state-of-the-art robotics manufacturing facility. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining the body of work orders that drive production and assembly activities.

This role is a highly visible role, and involves partnership with planning staff, production coordinators, manufacturing engineers, purchasing andย  inventory teams to align production output with business goals.ย  The Master Production Scheduler must be able to facilitate interdepartmental projects, lead coordinate efforts and keep track of materials in a fast paced production environment.

The scheduling of manufacturing labor, machinery and materials affect our ability to facilitate best-in-class customer experiences.ย  The Master Production Scheduler needs to consider labor efficiency, material readiness, customer delivery performance, layers in the bill of materials, and cycle times for production cells in order to optimize production activities in an environment that oftentimes can include adversarial metrics.

The Master Production Scheduler also is responsible for creating non-standard work orders for the transformation of materials, for rework or repair of assemblies.ย  This effort may involve quality staff, engineering support and other internal staff as needed.

The Mater Production Scheduling reports to the Director of Planning & Supply Chain and should require minimal supervision.ย  The position involves a high degree of interaction with Manufacturing, Sales, Accounting, Purchasing, Engineering, and other company departments and requires a strong ability to exercise independent judgment.

About the Work

  • Develop and Maintain the master Production Schedule (MPS) consisting of work orders created in our ERP system
  • Optimize the work order schedule based on material availability, labor constraints, machinery availability, and other factors
  • Track production schedule attainment / adherence and change requests
  • Identify risks to production and work with staff on mitigation activities
  • Monitor work order aging and reschedule any missed production output within factory & material capacity constraints
  • Lead scheduling meetings and provide clear visibility to all staff that rely on production information
  • Use ERP functionality to track material movements, work order attainment, assembly revisions and material transformations
  • Enable the configuration of simulations based on guidance to explore comparative production scenariosย ย
  • Other duties as assigned

About You

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Operations Management, Sciences or other related field
  • 4+ years of experience in production scheduling in a complex, low-volume high-mix manufacturing environment (robotics, EMS or other technology company)
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Strong ability to use ERP/MRP systems
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, order processing times, material planning and manufacturing processes
  • Strong ability to use analytical tools including Google Sheets and/or MS Excel
  • Ability to operate with limited supervision, meet deadlines and work under pressure
  • Preferred: APICS CPIM, CSCP, IBF CPF or other related certifications

Location

  • This is an onsite position at our Salem.

The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to: job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Agility Robotics is a multi-state employer and this salary range may not reflect positions who work in other locations. These ranges may be modified in the future.
