Job description

Job Title: Senior Production Planner
Job Description
The Senior Production Planner plans and coordinates production activities to achieve program objectives efficiently within the organization's technical capabilities. This role creates and manages manufacturing schedules and purchase requisitions using MRP and ERP systems, tracks material flow, and ensures that all parts and assemblies are available to meet on-time delivery commitments. The Senior Production Planner works closely with production, test, project management, and purchasing teams to control programs through manufacturing and test, resolve schedule-related issues, and maintain accurate production and inventory records.
Responsibilities
  • Plan and determine the most efficient methods to achieve program objectives within existing technical capabilities.
  • Create detailed manufacturing order schedules and purchase requisitions for assigned projects using MRP and ERP systems.
  • Track and monitor purchased materials for assigned projects to ensure availability aligns with production schedules.
  • Identify critical parts and critical path assemblies that impact scheduled delivery dates and take proactive actions to mitigate risks.
  • Execute production plans and control programs through manufacturing and test to ensure timely delivery of equipment to customers.
  • Coordinate and expedite the flow of materials, parts, and assemblies between departments to maintain schedule adherence.
  • Perform complex expediting and record-keeping functions, maintaining current information on the location and progress of manufactured parts and assemblies.
  • Release production kits to the manufacturing floor with complete travelers, operation sheets, and required documentation.
  • Host regular meetings on program status and schedules with project management, production, test, and other stakeholders, and resolve issues affecting on-time delivery.
  • Arrange in-plant transfer of materials to meet production schedules and avoid bottlenecks.
  • Compile and maintain manual or computerized records, including material inventory, in-process production reports, and status and location of materials.
  • Move or coordinate the transport of materials from one department to another to support ongoing production activities.
  • Expedite materials to ensure delivery and availability by required due dates.
  • Follow internal work orders through processing to ensure items and assemblies are completed on schedule.
  • Process engineering change notices (ECNs) to ensure work-in-progress (WIP) reflects current revisions and documentation.

Essential Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Business with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or equivalent work experience.
  • 4-6 years of experience in planning or production control within an electronic or electro-mechanical manufacturing facility.
  • 4-6 years of hands-on ERP and MRP system experience.
  • Strong knowledge of work schedules, bills of material, and receiving reports.
  • Familiarity with tools, equipment, and nomenclature of parts and components used in electro-mechanical manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with Costpoint or similar ERP systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP functions, and additional formulas.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, schedule, and coordinate multiple projects in a manufacturing setting.
  • Ability to coordinate and expedite materials and assemblies across departments to meet deadlines.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working with radio frequency (RF) or related electronic production environments.
  • Hands-on experience with production planning in electronic or electro-mechanical manufacturing.
  • Experience using ERP and MRP systems beyond Costpoint is beneficial.
  • Ability to interpret and work with bills of material and engineering documentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify critical paths and resolve schedule conflicts.
  • Effective communication skills to lead status meetings and collaborate with project management, production, test, and purchasing teams.
  • Attention to detail in expediting, record keeping, and maintaining accurate production and inventory data.
  • Capability to manage engineering change notices (ECNs) and ensure WIP is aligned with current revisions.
  • Motivation to grow within a planning team structure and contribute to continuous improvement of planning processes.

Work Environment
The Senior Production Planner works as part of a small planning team of four, consisting of two planners and two Senior planners, including this role. The position collaborates closely with buyers and other cross-functional partners to ensure material availability and schedule adherence. The role involves significant interaction on the production floor within an electronic or electro-mechanical manufacturing facility, working directly with materials, production, and test teams. The environment relies heavily on ERP and MRP systems, including Costpoint, and frequent use of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools. The pay range for this position is $95000.00 - $125000.00/yr.
