Job description

The Opportunity

Velazquez Pain Relief Center is hiring a Medical Assistant for our pain management clinics and our ASC. Assignments are based on each MA's skills, certifications, and interests — so if procedural and preoperative care excite you, you'll spend more of your week in the surgery center; if patient relationships, intake work, and prior authorizations are your strength, you'll spend more of your time in the clinic.

This role is open as full-time or part-time. We will work with the right candidate on a schedule that fits.

What You'll Do — In the Clinic
  • Welcome patients warmly, perform intake and initial assessment, document vitals, current medications, allergies, history, and pain scores

  • Pull radiology images and reports, lab results, prior records, and any outside documentation the provider needs before the visit

  • Collect urine drug screens per practice policy and chain-of-custody requirements

  • Provide accurate, concise patient summaries to the provider before they enter the room

  • Help patients complete intake paperwork and consent forms; explain forms clearly and patiently

  • Coordinate with pharmacies on refills, clarifications, and prior-authorization-related callbacks

  • Initiate, follow up on, and close out medication prior authorizations

  • Submit and track outgoing referrals to specialists, imaging, and physical therapy

  • Work closely with our Personal Injury and Workers' Compensation departments to keep documentation, authorizations, and updates moving

  • Maintain a clean, sanitary, organized clinical environment — patient safety first, every time

What You'll Do — In the Ambulatory Surgery Center
  • Prepare patients for interventional pain procedures, including chart review, vitals, and pre-procedure checks

  • Place peripheral IVs and prepare patients for the procedure room

  • Assist in pre-op and PACU under the direction of the procedural and nursing team

  • Discharge patients with clear, written post-procedure instructions and follow-up information

  • Maintain par levels of supplies; turn over rooms quickly while staying meticulous

  • Uphold facility cleanliness, sanitation, and sterility standards consistent with ASC and AAAHC / state requirements

  • Prioritize patient safety at every step

What We're Looking ForRequired
  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program OR equivalent supervised clinical experience

  • Current BLS certification (or willingness to obtain before start date)

  • Comfortable taking vitals, performing standard MA clinical tasks, and (for ASC assignments) placing peripheral IVs — or willingness to be trained

  • Strong written, verbal, and phone communication skills

  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance at all times

Preferred
  • CCMA, RMA, or CMA certification

  • One or more years of medical assistant experience, ideally in pain management, orthopedics, PM&R, neurosurgery, or a surgical specialty

  • Prior experience with medication prior authorizations and outgoing referrals

  • Familiarity with Workers' Compensation and Personal Injury patient workflows (Nevada DIR, lien-based care, etc.)

  • Pre-op, PACU, or ASC experience

  • EMR proficiency

  • Bilingual English/Spanish a strong plus

Why You'll Like Working Here
  • Variety. Most pain MA roles are clinic-only. Ours include real procedural exposure inside our ASC for MAs who want it.

  • Growth. multiple locations means real internal mobility — both geographically and in scope of work.

  • Team. Small enough to know everyone's name, structured enough to support you with the tools and processes you need to do the job well.

  • Schedule. Full-time and part-time both available; we'll work with you on a schedule that fits.

  • Benefits. Medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with match, PTO, paid holidays,

  • Compensation. Pay Range: $15.00 - $23.00 DOE
