Virtual Medical Data Entry Specialist + Prior Authorization (Endocrinology)

Position Title - Virtual Medical Data Entry Specialist (Endocrinology)

Client Specialty - Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified Physician (MD/MBBS) with endocrinology experience to support a US-based endocrinology practice with pre-charting, medical data entry, and clinical documentation in the EPIC EMR system. This role requires a strong understanding of diabetes management, thyroid disorders, metabolic conditions, and related laboratory values. The ideal candidate will review patient records before appointments, update charts with lab results and clinical notes, and ensure the provider is fully prepared for each patient encounter.

Clinical Knowledge Required

The candidate must have comprehensive understanding of:

Diabetes Management

  • Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment protocols
  • Insulin therapy, including basal-bolus regimens and insulin pump management
  • GLP-1 receptor agonists (Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, Trulicity)
  • SGLT-2 inhibitors, DPP-4 inhibitors, and oral antidiabetic medications
  • HbA1c interpretation and glycemic targets
  • Diabetic complications (nephropathy, neuropathy, retinopathy)
  • Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) data interpretation

Thyroid Disorders

  • Hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism diagnosis and management
  • TSH, T3, T4, free T4 interpretation
  • Thyroid nodules evaluation and fine needle aspiration (FNA) follow-up
  • Thyroid ultrasound findings interpretation
  • Graves disease and Hashimoto thyroiditis
  • Thyroid cancer staging and follow-up protocols

Other Endocrine Conditions

  • Metabolic syndrome and obesity management
  • Osteoporosis screening, DEXA interpretation, and treatment
  • Dyslipidemia and lipid panel interpretation
  • Adrenal disorders (Addison disease, Cushing syndrome)
  • Pituitary disorders
  • Low testosterone and hormone replacement therapy
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Charting in EPIC EMR

  • Review patient records before scheduled appointments
  • Update charts with recent laboratory results (A1C, lipid panels, thyroid panels, metabolic panels)
  • Pull imaging results and specialist consultation notes into the EMR
  • Create pre-visit notes using client-specific templates
  • Document vitals, chief complaints, and update patient history
  • Update medication lists and perform medication reconciliation
  • Flag overdue screenings (A1C, lipids, thyroid function, bone density)
  • Audit charts for missing or incomplete documentation

Additional Clinical Support Tasks

  • Assist with prior authorization documentation for GLP-1 medications
  • Support insurance eligibility verification when needed
  • Prepare medical surveys and patient questionnaire responses
  • Draft HIPAA-compliant responses to patient reviews
  • Communicate with provider via WhatsApp, Teams, or secure messaging
  • Submit end-of-day productivity reports to Team Leader

Required Qualifications

Education

  • MBBS or MD degree from a recognized medical university (REQUIRED)
  • Internship completion with clinical rotations in internal medicine
  • Post-graduate training in Endocrinology or Internal Medicine (preferred)

Experience

  • Minimum 1-2 years clinical experience in endocrinology or internal medicine
  • Direct patient care experience with diabetic and thyroid patients
  • Experience interpreting lab values relevant to endocrine conditions
  • Prior experience with EMR systems (EPIC experience strongly preferred)

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with electronic medical records and clinical documentation
  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn new software quickly
  • Excellent typing speed and accuracy
