YBLA Seeks Leadership Coaches for Black High School Youth in Charlotte


Position Summary: Leadership Coach

YBLA is seeking dedicated and dynamic young professionals to fill part-time Leadership Coach positions supporting and guiding high-achieving Black youth in Charlotte. This role is vital in fostering leadership development among young Black men and women through mentorship, coaching, direction, and guidance.


The Leadership Coach will work with students and their parents in a hybrid program model, ensuring effective communication, participation, and personal growth. This position manages a caseload of up to 10 eleventh-grade students, focusing on their leadership development through a variety of projects and activities.


Key Responsibilities


Coaching:

  • Provide real-time coaching and leadership to high-achieving Black high school students, balancing challenge with support.
  • Oversee the leadership development of your assigned students.
  • Assist the YBLA leadership team in interviewing and selecting eligible candidates.
  • Assign activities and projects that enhance students' leadership growth.
  • Evaluate and set goals for each student to enhance their leadership growth.


Instruction:

  • Facilitate in-person sessions two Saturdays per month.
  • Facilitate up to two virtual sessions per month using YBLAs curriculum and programming guides.
  • Monitor and track students' progress and well-being.


Communication:

  • Maintain regular communication with students and parents, providing updates and status reports using GroupMe.
  • Meet virtually with the Program Manager weekly to discuss the curriculum and student progress.


Administration:

  • Track student attendance, completion, and participation.
  • Assist in planning, implementing, interviewing, selecting, and facilitating meetings, retreats, and mission trips.


Qualifications

  • Strong ability to coach high-achieving Black students.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Committed to the mission of YBLA and the growth and development of young Black leaders.
  • Must be a creative problem-solver who is proactive, solutions-oriented, focused, and attentive to students' and parents' needs.
  • Must be able to effectively engage with and develop relationships with students and parents.
  • Reliable and detail-oriented, with a passion for education and leadership development.
  • Must live in the Charlotte or surrounding metropolitan area.
  • Must be available to facilitate virtual and in-person sessions during the evening and/or on Saturdays.
  • Must be flexible and able to adapt to changing needs and expectations.


Education/Experience:

  • Minimum of a two-year college degree.
  • Two to four years of experience working with high school students.


Position Requirements

  • Typical work hours: Part-time position up to 20 hours per month.
  • In-person: Two 2 to 3 hour sessions per month on Saturdays.
  • Virtual: Up to two virtual engagements per month.
  • Travel: Must be available for all signature events and trips, including weekend retreats, Saturday cohort meetings, a summer service abroad trip, and signature program events.
  • Must have a valid passport and be able to travel to Belize in the summer.
