POSITION TITLE: Leadership Development Coordinator
ASSIGNMENT: Leadership Development Department
AREA: New York City
REPORTS TO: Director
CLASSIFICATION: Permanent

SALARY: $115,380.93
Position Overview: The Leadership Development Coordinator builds the leadership recruitment and development skills of the Union's staff and members. The Leadership Development Coordinator responds to requests for training, convenes meetings, and collaborates with others to develop and deliver a variety of educational events and workshops.
Job Responsibilities: Collaborate with officers, regional coordinators of other departments (e.g., New Organizing, Political Action, Communications), organizers, staff, and members to identify and meet leadership development needs based on division work plans and union goals. Ensure smooth operation of the delegate training program for members. Develop and conduct workshops that enhance the ability of staff, officers, and experienced members to increase the leadership skills of all members.
  • Collaborate with the director and department staff on program administration to meet department and organizational goals
  • Functions as a part of the Divisional Leadership Team, including attending and participating in weekly leadership meetings.
  • Develop, revise, and deliver curriculum for courses, campaigns, special events, and conferences.
  • Proven ability to effectively connect with, inspire, or coach adult learners.
  • Organize and conduct educational sessions.
  • Train staff and members as facilitators.
  • Work with support staff to set logistics and communication for training.
  • Assist and support training in Health and Safety, Politics, and other areas as needed
  • Manage databases of registration and attendance at training courses (e.g., Excel, Access)
  • Administer assessments of programs and participants.
  • Submit reports to the Director.
  • Attend and staff committees and task forces linked to the Education Department.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • A combination of work and educational experience is required
  • Passionate about social and economic justice and role of education in social change.
  • Three or more years of work in a social justice or education environment, especially as an organizer or adult educator, with facilitation and mentorship experience
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating training and revising curriculum
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, including strong listening, speaking, and critical thinking skills
  • Strong reading and writing skillsAbility to collaborate with others, work effectively in teams, and manage multiple projects
  • Comfort and confidence working with others at a variety of skill levels
  • Flexibility and adaptability; Ability to learn new material quickly
  • Basic computer proficiency and database skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Web)
  • Ability to travel to the five (5) states 1199SEIU represents and elsewhere as needed.
  • Valid driver's license preferred
  • Ability to move 20-pound boxes.
  • Ability to work long and irregular hours as needed
  • Preferable that the candidate has some knowledge of the Hudson Valley and Capital regions.
  • Bachelor's Degree or 5 years' experience (in relevant field), Certificates and/or additional degrees should be indicated
