Support the Practice Development team in the management of practice groups, practice areas and /or initiatives in the core areas of practice strategy, financial management, qualitative and quantitative analysis, and marketing.  Assist senior practice development manager (SPDM), practice development specialist (PDS), Practice Group Leader(s)(PGLs), and other attorneys and professional staff on the execution and implementation of practice group strategic priorities and business imperatives within the context of overall firm strategy.  Contribute to the overall success of practice group performance.


  • Assist SPDM and PDS with the execution of practice group business development initiatives.
  • Develop legal rankings submissions and track submission information from year-to-year, including related research, matter collection and maintenance of practice group data.
  • Maintain updates to all appropriate practice group intranet and other internal knowledge management pages (including posting of news, articles, case law, training materials or other relevant information). 
  • Assist and at times take the lead in drafting practice group and/or client presentations working with SPDM, PDS, partners and PGLs.
  • Work with SPDM and PDS on lateral partner on-boarding tasks including, creating contact lists and schedules, coordinating with representatives from Business Development, Operations, Finance, Marketing, Professional Development, Legal Services and CICC, and organizing the delivery of practice group and firm materials.
  • Support practice group, practice area and/or initiative meetings by preparing agendas, taking notes and driving follow up to meetings to optimize outcomes.

  • An undergraduate degree, with a minimum of one year of relevant experience.  
  • Law firm, professional services or corporate experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to identify and solve problems, work independently, and take initiative.
  • Ability to compile, review and determine logical conclusions or recommendations based on qualitative and quantitative data and information which is varied in content and format.
  • Demonstrates aptitude for data analytics to support the team’s growing need for data-driven insights and reporting.
  • Strong oral communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively use technology, database, presentation, and spreadsheet software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with people at all levels.
  • Ability to establish credibility with Ropes & Gray attorneys and professional staff, to bring to bear the right mix of confidence, tact and persistence in working with the firm’s lawyers and professional staff.

The anticipated pay range for this role is listed below and represents our good faith and reasonable estimate of the starting salary range at the time of posting. In addition, this role is eligible for a discretionary bonus based on performance. The actual offered rate for this position will be determined based on job-related, non-discriminatory factors, including qualifications and experience, geographic location, education, external market data and consideration of internal equity.

Boston: 60,500 - 87,750

New York: 66,000 - 95,700


This position requires hybrid on-site presence as an essential function of the role. Consistent and predictable on-site presence is required for ongoing business continuity, professional development and effective collaboration with colleagues and management.
