The Product Development Associate will support color cosmetics product development within the Lip category, reporting to the Senior Manager, Product Development. This role is responsible for evaluating formulas, colors, and packaging components while providing detailed feedback to development laboratories and vendors.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, passionate about makeup artistry and texture innovation, and has a strong understanding of color theory and emerging beauty trends. Working closely with laboratory, marketing, packaging, and regulatory teams, this individual will help transform creative concepts into high-quality products that deliver exceptional performance, comfort, wear, and inclusivity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in creating detailed technical and creative product development briefs, outlining performance expectations, benchmark products, shade direction, and aesthetic requirements.
  • Evaluate formula submissions from internal and external laboratories, assessing texture, pigmentation, wear time, application, scent, and overall product performance.
  • Provide direction on shade modifications, undertones, and color matching to ensure products perform across diverse skin tones.
  • Track and manage multiple formula iterations, maintain organized feedback documentation, and establish approved formula standards.
  • Coordinate internal product testing panels to collect feedback on comfort, texture, application, and overall user experience.
  • Conduct competitive benchmarking of lip products, monitor market trends, ingredient innovations, and viral beauty products to identify opportunities for innovation.
  • Present new texture concepts, color trends, application methods, and market insights to cross-functional teams.
  • Collaborate closely with laboratory, packaging, regulatory, and marketing teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Cosmetology, Marketing, Business, or a related scientific or creative discipline.
  • 2–4 years of experience in cosmetic product development, preferably within color cosmetics. Experience with lip products is highly preferred.
  • Beauty retail experience is a plus.
  • Excellent color perception (ability to pass a color vision assessment) and the ability to evaluate and describe product sensory attributes such as slip, drag, cushion, and tackiness.
  • Strong passion for the beauty industry, makeup artistry, pop culture, and social media beauty trends.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and aggressive timelines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and creative teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and the Microsoft Office Suite.
