A Taste of What You'll Do

As a Market Development Manager, Retail Wine & Spirits, you will play a critical role in maximizing the sale and distribution of Gallo brands across retail accounts. Working closely with distributor partners, you will execute sales and marketing strategies, identify opportunities to drive growth, and help deliver exceptional business results in your market. You will serve as a trusted advisor, coach, and advocate for our brands while building strong relationships with distributor sales teams, management, and retail customers.

In this highly visible role, you will strategically prioritize opportunities, analyze market trends and competitive activity, and use data-driven insights to influence decisions that accelerate growth. You will support distributor teams through coaching, training, and execution of sales programs while leveraging technology and digital tools to monitor performance, identify opportunities, and drive action.

Success in this role requires a strong commercial mindset, the ability to influence without authority, and a passion for developing people and brands. You will collaborate with cross-functional partners, support consumer engagement initiatives, champion innovation, and represent Gallo in the marketplace as a brand ambassador. What You'll Need

  • Bachelor's degree plus 2 years of Gallo winery or distributor sales reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; OR Bachelor's degree plus 3 years of wine or spirits sales, marketing, restaurant/hospitality, or distributor experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; OR High school diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate plus 6 years of Gallo winery or distributor sales experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; OR High school diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate plus 7 years of wine or spirits sales, marketing, restaurant/hospitality, or distributor experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Candidate is required to have a valid driver's license, a safe driving record and reliable vehicle (if applicable) at the time of hire. This position will undergo a motor vehicle check (MVR) to confirm a history of safe and responsible driving. If needed, candidate must obtain the appropriate state driver's license based on the position's location within 30 days of hire.
  • Required to obtain liquor license as required by state/locality.
  • Required to travel by air and car in order to execute job functions.
  • Required to see, taste, and smell wine and perform wine tastings as part of job functions.
  • Required to be 21 years of age or older.
  • Required to Travel by air and automobile up to 25% during the course of business.
  • Experience demonstrating strong leadership, selling, time management, and public speaking skills.
  • Required to travel to company offices, sites, and/or meeting locations for onboarding, training, meetings, and events for development, department needs, and business delivery up to 5% of the time, with or without reasonable accommodation. This may be in addition to travel requirements, if applicable, as listed in this job description.
  • Required to be 18 years or older. This may be in addition to other age requirements, if applicable, as listed in this job description.

How You'll Stand Out

  • Bachelor's degree plus 4 years of Gallo winery or distributor sales experience to include a prior rotation as a Spirits Development Specialist, Spirits Development Specialist Sr, Business Intelligence Analyst Sr, Market Development Manager, Market Development Manager Sr, or Account Manager 1; OR Bachelor's degree plus 5 years of external alcohol sales experience to include on-premise experience.
  • Experience selling or marketing Gallo brands and identifying market opportunities through analysis of sales, customer, and competitive data.

  • We offer a broad salary range to allow for long-term growth. Actual compensation paid within the range will be determined by multiple factors, including, but not limited to, education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed between the entry point and middle of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors. In addition to the salary, this position may be eligible for bonuses, incentive plans, or participate in tasting room tip pools, as applicable.
