Description

The IT Operations Specialist supports the daily operational stability, performance, and maintenance of the agency’s core technology platforms and infrastructure. This position focuses on ensuring reliable system availability, assisting with maintenance activities, monitoring operational health, and supporting incident response efforts. The IT Operations Specialist works within the Infrastructure unit and collaborates with other teams in the IT & Cyber Operations and Technology Strategy sections to uphold technology standards, maintain secure environments, and contribute to the resilience of agency systems. The IT Operations Specialist reports to the Director of IT & Cyber Operations.

Examples of Duties:

• Monitor the performance and availability of on‑premises and cloud infrastructure, network systems, and critical technology platforms.

• Perform routine maintenance tasks such as patching, system updates, configuration changes, and equipment lifecycle activities under guidance from sr. staff.

• Assist in implementing and maintaining system monitoring tools and alerts to ensure prompt identification of operational issues.

• Support incident response efforts by participating in troubleshooting, diagnosing root causes, and restoring services during outages or degraded performance events.

• Maintain operational documentation, including system configurations, runbooks, maintenance records, and asset inventory.

• Assist with backup and recovery operations and contribute to disaster recovery testing and preparation activities.

• Escalate complex technical issues to sr. engineers or unit leadership while providing detailed diagnostic information.

• Provide support for infrastructure‑related projects, upgrades, and deployments as assigned.

• Ensure adherence to security and operational best practices when working with servers, networks, cloud platforms, and enterprise systems.

• Partner with cybersecurity personnel when vulnerabilities or security events intersect with infrastructure operations.

• Perform related duties as required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Minimum Experience and Training

• Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.

• Two or more years of experience in IT operations, systems administration, network support, or a similar technical role.

• Experience supporting Windows and/or Linux server environments, cloud platforms, or enterprise networking technologies is preferred.

• Experience with system monitoring, patching tools, or backup technologies is beneficial.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Working knowledge of infrastructure components including servers, networks, virtualization platforms, cloud environments, and monitoring tools

• Basic understanding of cybersecurity concepts such as patching, vulnerability awareness, and incident response coordination

• Ability to perform routine maintenance, apply updates, and follow technical procedures accurately

• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify and resolve operational issues

• Strong communication skills with the ability to document work clearly and collaborate effectively with technical teams

• Ability to follow established processes, escalation paths, and operational standards

• Commitment to continuous learning, operational excellence, and maintaining a secure, stable technology environment

• Ability to make quick but informed decisions in a fast-paced environment during periods of high stress

• Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Harrisburg, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
