Lazy Bear is looking for a full-time Sous Chef. We are interested in people with passion and integrity, who will push the level of our creativity, experimentation, and standards on a daily basis. Requirements
  • A minimum of three years of experience in fine dining kitchens, with some Michelin background preferred.
  • Career-minded: looking to stay in one place for a longer period of time and grow with the company.
  • Great attitude and personal integrity.
  • Strong attention to detail and a need to work clean.
  • Experience organizing food storage over multiple cooling units and dry storage.
  • Experience taking, submitting, and maintaining inventory.
  • Experience managing multiple people in a kitchen setting organized around both short term and long term goals.
  • California Food Handler’s Certification, Manager’s Certification is a plus.
  • Knowledge of advanced cooking techniques and how to use a variety of commercial cooking devices.
Job Duties

The Lazy Bear Sous Chefs help run the kitchen and may be responsible for any or all of the following as well as additional duties that may arise over time as the restaurant and the position evolves. We are looking for someone who has the ability and the commitment to do any job that is needed at the time, but the organization to know which jobs would be best delegated to others and when.

  • Upholding the standards and the culture of Lazy Bear.
  • Receiving deliveries and ensuring that they are accurate and that invoices are included every time.
  • Closely overseeing, guiding, and teaching our Chefs De Partie and Commis.
  • Creating and testing new dishes for our menu.
  • Frequently visiting farmer’s markets.
  • Foraging on a weekly basis.
  • Detailed butchering of fish and other proteins.
  • Making sauces and preparing other components for service.
  • Placing orders.
  • Effectively communicating with all aspects of the management team and members of the Front of House staff in order to facilitate the best experience for our staff and for our guests.

Lazy Bear is a fine dining restaurant designed to bring communities together and link the dining experience to the creation and foundations of each plate. We currently hold two Michelin Stars and are on Eater’s Essential 38 for San Francisco.
