Job description

PURPOSE

This role is to provide technical thermo-products evaluation and repair within the organization to support departmental goals. Much of an associate's time will be spent in a repair environment evaluating, diagnosing, and servicing simple to complex systems. The associate will also mentor and train technicians while gaining knowledge to service more diverse products over time.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES


• Interpret internal and external customer requirements to meet desired outputs.
• Conduct technical product evaluations to identify potential modes of failure as defined by existing documentation and report results back to internal and external customers.
• Communicate technical knowledge, specification, and direction to internal and external customers.
• Conduct testing of repaired equipment using existing documentation and procedures.
• Prepare evaluation reports and repair quotes for internal and external customers.
• Read and interpret electrical and refrigerant schematics.
• Troubleshoot simple to complex cooling, heating, and drying systems using common and specialized diagnostic equipment to recommend appropriate solutions.
• Repair and/or replace simple to complex refrigeration circuits.
• Maintain accurate records for refrigerant usage and recovery.
• Research and/or input data utilizing corporate management system software that include drawings, part lists, bills of material, operations manuals, maintenance manuals, product specification, and repair quotes.
• Complete assigned tasks using predefined departmental processes.
• Hands on technical support for both internal and external customers.
• Participate on a team to accomplish given tasks or processes.
• Travel mainly for the purpose of training or customer support. (minimal)
• All other duties as assigned.
• Record daily activities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT


• Capacity to work indoors in an office, laboratory, and/or manufacturing environment.
• Ability to work in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time.
• Capability to lift objects or equipment weighing up to 51 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Physical aptitude to use basic hand tools in a laboratory and/or manufacturing environment.
• Ability to travel and/or attend meetings domestic and internationally outside of normal business hours.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS


• Associate degree in a technical discipline, or technical certificate from an accredited HVAC program for troubleshooting and repair of HVAC systems, or the equivalent in appropriate education and experience as determined by management utilizing internal SMC career development criteria.
• Novice understanding to apply project management principles, methodologies, and documentation.
• Competent in reading and comprehending technical documents and creating reports.
• Novice understanding of common assembly processes.
• Novice understanding of common manufacturing processes.
• Competent understanding of mechanical and electrical systems.
• Competent understanding of schematics.
• Fluent understanding of EPA section 608 certification. (Universal)
• Fluent in brazing using general guidelines.
• Competent understanding of NFPA70E Electrical safety (must complete Arc flash certification within the first 6 months of employment)
• Competent understanding of the concepts of specialized diagnostic equipment.
• Competent at efficient use of time to effectively plan and execute multiple duties.
• Fluent to utilize basic inspection equipment in a laboratory environment. (multimeter, flow meter, etc.)
• Competent ability to communicate utilizing corporate office software.
• Competent ability to take verbal and/or written direction on tasks, training, or departmental / company policies.
• Competent ability to communicate, in English, with internal and external customers tactfully and professionally.
