Assistant Principal Job Description
The Assistant Principal provides leadership and direction in all programs, impacting student life, formation, discipline, and co-curricular activities. The Assistant Principal reports to the Principal and is a member of the Leadership Team. The Assistant Principal works with the Principal and Assistant Principal to create a positive and nurturing school culture, rooted in the St. Rita School mission and values. Utilizing the St. Rita School graduate profile, the Assistant Principal will collaborate with key constituents (staff, faculty, advisors, parents, and students) to set priorities for student formation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversees mission formation and discipline of students in grades preK-8
  • Supervises faculty, advisors, and all co-curricular student activities of the school
  • Collaborates with the Principal and Assistant Principal on all matters of student formation, discipline, intervention, and evaluation of students
  • Oversees the review, editing, and publication of the Family Handbook
  • Supports faculty in progressive and mission-driven classroom management, formation of students, and discipline
  • Directs the master calendar of events in coordination with the Principal and Assistant Principal during the school year
  • Coordinates student assemblies/events for the purpose of building school community and mission-driven leadership among students
  • Promotes a positive, caring, and nurturing climate for learning
  • Assists with standardized testing preparation
  • Serves as a member of the school Leadership Team
  • Serves as a role model of Catholic faith and leadership on the St. Rita School Administrative Team
  • Teachers course/s as needed, and as assigned by the Principal
  • Serves as an administrative leader in the absence of the Principal
  • Participates in the formal and informal teacher evaluation process
  • Embodies values of faith, respect, diverse community, leadership, service, and education of the whole child
  • Treats members of the school community with fairness, dignity, and respect - seeking a spirit of unity and harmony to achieve a common mission
  • Maintains open lines of communication with parents
  • Assists with/facilitates school safety drills
  • Other supervisory duties as assigned by the principal, including evening and weekend school events, and curricular activities

Requirements
Desired Qualifications
  • At least five years of full-time teaching experience in a Catholic school
  • A Master's degree or equivalent coursework
  • Coursework in Catholic school leadership (as required)
  • Certification in an academic content area or equivalent coursework
  • Experience with elementary and middle school-age student populations
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Professional experience in crisis management and conflict resolution
  • Demonstrates proficiency in educational technology and the ability to integrate digital tools and software into daily professional practice
  • Exhibits excellent professional organization, effective time management, critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and sound professional judgment.
