Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking an Assistant Dean II. Rutgers Law School (RLS) seeks an experienced, strategically minded candidate with a record of setting and achieving student success goals to lead our Bar Studies Program in Newark. The successful candidate must be creative and organized, possess a deep understanding of the bar exam, and have analytical, quantitative, and collaborative skills. The Assistant Dean II must possess a commitment to advancing bar passage rates in Newark through a variety of bar-related interventions and careful monitoring of student success from matriculation through bar admission.
The Assistant Dean II of Bar Studies in Newark will report to the Associate/Assistant Dean of Bar Studies and work closely with the faculty and administration.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
  • Assist in designing, implementing, and managing programming to improve and maintain bar passage rates at RLS so that they are at or above those of peer institutions.
  • Assist the Assistant/Associate Dean of Bar Studies in developing, teaching, and supervising courses focused on bar passage.
  • The Assistant Dean II, in conjunction with the academic success faculty, will also assist with academic success programming at RLS.
  • Use student data and resources from internal and external partners.
  • The Assistant Dean II will be responsible for tracking bar data and reporting, and championing data-driven decisions that meet bar passage and student success goals.
  • Manage contractual relationships with vendors related to bar studies.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • J.D. from an ABA-approved law school with strong academic credentials.
  • Current or prior admission to the bar of at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • A minimum of 3 years of law-related experience, post-law school graduation.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in bar exam advising and/or tutoring.
