Job Description

As a Senior Engineer, Email at Razorfish you will be a vital part of our team, contributing your skills and expertise to design and build innovative solutions for our clients. You will actively participate in hands-on programming tasks, working collaboratively with project teams to deliver high-quality code and meet project objectives. Your adaptability to new technologies and tools within your career path will be essential as you help create digital experiences that drive success for our clients.

Qualifications1. Core Technical Skills (Must-Haves)
  • HTML for Email: Expert-level knowledge of writing semantic, table-based HTML layouts that are robust and compatible with a wide range of email clients.
  • CSS for Email: Strong command of CSS, particularly inline CSS, and an understanding of which properties are supported or ignored by major email clients.
  • Template Logic & Dynamics: High proficiency with advanced templating languages such as FreeMarker, Liquid, Jinja, Handlebars.js, and similar frameworks, including the ability to resolve complex multi-variable logic signals and dynamic content rules.
  • Responsive & Mobile-First Design: The ability to build emails that render perfectly on all screen sizes using media queries and fluid design techniques.
  • Version Control: Proficiency with Git for code management and collaboration with other developers.
2. Email-Specific Knowledge & Best Practices
  • Email Client Rendering: Deep understanding of the quirks and inconsistencies between different email clients.
  • Email Accessibility (A11y): Knowledge of how to make emails accessible to users with disabilities.
  • Dark Mode Optimization: Experience in designing and coding emails that look great in both light and dark modes.
  • Image Optimization: Ability to slice and optimize images for email to ensure fast load times.
  • Global Localization (L10N): Experience supporting localized email workflows or high-volume multilingual campaigns is a plus, especially for programs scaled across many markets or languages.
  • Deliverability Awareness: Understanding of concepts that affect email deliverability.
3. Platform & Tool Proficiency
  • Email Service Providers (ESPs) / Marketing Automation Platforms: Hands-on experience with platforms like Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC), Marketo, Mailchimp, Klaviyo, Braze, etc.
  • Google Platform Experience: Experience with Google's proprietary CRM/campaign orchestration platforms, including visual WYSIWYG builders and custom HTML/FreeMarker code imports, is a plus.
  • Quality Assurance: Proficiency with layout testing suites such as Litmus and Email on Acid, with the ability to leverage custom development utilities to inspect and troubleshoot client-specific rendering bugs, including mobile browser CSS exclusions.
  • Asset Processing: Experience with local development workflows using Node.js, Gulp, webpack, or similar pipelines for CSS compiling with Sass, linting, asset optimization, and building production-ready email code.
  • AI-Assisted Engineering: Experience or familiarity with modern AI-powered developer tools, coding assistants, and agentic development workflows (e.g., Gemini, Google's Antigravity, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Windsurf, or similar platforms). Ability to leverage these tools effectively for code generation, debugging, testing, documentation, automation, and developer productivity is a plus.
  • Data Handling: Proficiency in parsing data from sources like CSV files and API (JSON) responses. Ability to iterate through data structures (lists, arrays) using loops to transform, validate, filter, and map data into reusable formats for dynamic email content and campaign workflows.

Education & Previous Experience
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 3 to 5+ years of experience.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in relevant programming languages and technology platforms used in the digital marketing industry.
  • Solid understanding of web development concepts and practices, enabling you to contribute effectively to client solutions.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills to work seamlessly within project teams and effectively interact with stakeholders.
  • Ability to work Pacific Coast hours.

 Compensation Range: USD $73,150.00 - USD $96,200.00/Annually. This is the pay range the Company believes it will pay for this position at the time of this posting. Consistent with applicable law, compensation will be determined based on the skills, qualifications, and experience of the applicant along with the requirements of the position, and the Company reserves the right to modify this pay range at any time. Temporary roles may be eligible to participate in our freelancer/temporary employee medical plan through a third-party benefits administration system once certain criteria have been met. Temporary roles may also qualify for participation in our 401(k) plan after eligibility criteria have been met.
