Key Responsibilities of the Assistant Controller
  • Partner closely with the Controller to oversee day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting
  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process while ensuring deadlines and reporting requirements are met
  • Prepare and review financial statements, journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting schedules
  • Review work-in-progress (WIP) schedules, overbillings, underbillings, job costing, and other construction accounting activities
  • Support annual audits and serve as a key liaison with external auditors
  • Analyze financial results, investigate variances, and provide recommendations to leadership
  • Partner with Accounts Payable, Billing, Collections, and Operations to improve workflows and strengthen internal controls
  • Identify opportunities for automation, process improvements, and accounting efficiencies
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, acquisition support, and special projects as the organization grows
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and guidance across the accounting team while preparing to assume future supervisory responsibilities

Qualifications for the Assistant Controller
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong construction accounting experience is required
  • Prior experience managing, supervising, mentoring, or leading accounting professionals is required, even if not currently managing direct reports
  • Strong experience with month-end close, financial reporting, general ledger, and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Experience with WIP schedules, overbillings, underbillings, job costing, and percentage-of-completion accounting
  • Experience supporting annual financial statement audits
  • Experience with construction ERP systems
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and internal controls
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Ability to operate independently while collaborating effectively across multiple departments
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship requirements
