Job description

Title: Assistant Controller

  • Salary: $125,000 – $140,000 + Bonus
  • Location: Northern VA

Why This Opportunity Stands Out:

  • This isn’t your typical Assistant Controller role - instead of sitting in one company doing the same monthly cycle, you’ll work across multiple clients. Different businesses, different challenges, and a more hands-on, strategic role that builds a broader skill set.
  • Growth path: Clear trajectory into Controller / advisory / leadership roles
  • Work directly with leadership and help influence financial decisions
  • Stability: Long-tenured team + long-term client relationships
  • Strong benefits: Health, dental, PTO, 401(k) with match + performance bonus

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own monthly close and financial reporting across multiple client engagements
  • Oversee full-cycle accounting (AP, AR, GL, cash management)
  • Manage and review work of accounting staff (billing, AP, GL teams)
  • Support and coordinate external audits (financial, bank, 401k)
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS)
  • Implement and maintain internal controls and accounting policies
  • Analyze financial data and provide insights to clients
  • Troubleshoot and resolve accounting and reporting issues

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 8–10+ years of Deltek Costpoint experience
  • Experience in government contracting (GovCon) accounting
  • Strong background in financial reporting, audits, and full-cycle accounting
  • Experience overseeing accounting functions and staff
  • US Citizenship required due to government contracting requirements
  • Stable work history (no frequent short-term roles)

Preferred (Nice to Have):

  • Experience supporting multiple clients or entities
  • Background in consulting or outsourced accounting environments
  • Experience with QuickBooks, JAMIS, or Unanet
  • Experience with internal controls and compliance environments
  • CPA
