Description:

The Assistant Controller will play a key role in scaling the accounting function within a rapidly growing manufacturing organization. This role combines leadership responsibility with hands-on ownership of core accounting operations, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in a dynamic, high-growth environment.


This position is critical to strengthening financial processes, enhancing system capabilities, and supporting operational scalability. The Assistant Controller will work closely with finance leadership and cross-functional teams to improve reporting accuracy, optimize ERP utilization, and build a high-performing accounting team.


Core Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, AR, AP, fixed assets, inventory, leases, and debt in accordance with U.S. GAAP
  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including timelines, checklists, and preliminary financial statement review
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data within the ERP system (NetSuite)
  • Partner with external auditors and manage audit readiness, including timely and complete responses
  • Supervise and develop accounting team members, including workload management, performance feedback, and coaching
  • Collaborate with operations and supply chain teams on inventory, costing, and manufacturing-related financial matters

Additional Responsibilities

  • Support implementation and maintenance of internal controls over financial reporting
  • Drive process improvements and automation to enhance scalability and efficiency
  • Serve as a key user of NetSuite, supporting transaction review, troubleshooting, and reporting
  • Partner cross-functionally to improve data accuracy and ERP utilization
  • Support system implementations, upgrades, and enhancements
  • Assist in hiring, training, and developing accounting personnel

What You’ll Be Doing Day-to-Day

  • Reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reports
  • Managing close timelines and ensuring deadlines are met
  • Supporting and reviewing work from AR, AP, and accounting staff
  • Troubleshooting ERP issues and validating financial data
  • Collaborating with operations on inventory and cost-related questions
  • Identifying process gaps and recommending improvements
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Active CPA license
  • 6–10+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • 5+ years of experience leading or supervising accounting teams
  • Experience in manufacturing environments, including cost accounting
  • Experience working with NetSuite ERP
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

Preferred

  • Experience in high-growth or scaling organizations
  • Experience leading ERP implementations or automation initiatives
  • Experience in companies with $500M+ in revenue

Compensation

The anticipated minimum hiring range for this role is $135,000 - $175,000 per year plus bonus. Actual salary varies due to factors that may include, but are not limited to, relevant experience, skills, certifications, and location. This hire will be eligible for a discretionary bonus or incentive compensation. Variable compensation may depend on various factors, such as individual and organizational performance. Location

Onsite, with work from home flexibility, in Richmond, VA. This is not a remote position.
