Director of Spa

Job Summary:
The Director of Spa reports directly to the Managing Director, and is responsible for overseeing the quality and consistency of all Spa operations. This role will develop exceptional guest experiences in the Spa, for local and in-house guests and members.
Essential Functions:
- Define business strategy for the Spa, and then lead the implementation of that strategy ; Provide overall spa leadership, establishing and maintaining an effective control environment, both financial and operational.
- Ensure the highest quality of spa products and treatments.
- Lead the continuous improvement of Spa policies and operating practices.
- Oversee the ongoing development and positioning of the Spa offerings in terms of overall concept definition, philosophy, treatment & menu offerings.
- Review and refresh our spa product offering in line with current customer and industry global trends –anticipating future trends in the local market.
- Manage a successful spa retail operation, maximizing sales via Spa product availability.
- Conceptualize and implement annual initiatives.
- Work closely with sales & marketing to ensure cross-selling and marketing of Spa with group and transient guests.
- Oversee the annual operating budget including capital expenditures, to achieve or exceed budget expectations.
- Monitor external contracts and services provided by suppliers; maintain strong partnerships with vendors to ensure effective operations and that services provide the best quality and value.
- Oversee key talent & culture processes including:
- Recruitment and selection
- Performance management
- Daily rallies and on-going development of Spa & Wellness team
- Actively participate in achievement of overall Resort goals, as an active member of the management team; create strong relationships with all departments, participate in management meetings, daily rallies, communicating key activities of the Spa.
Required Qualifications:
- Five years’ operating experience in a hotel Spa department
- Must be familiar with the operations and priorities of all other hotel operating department
- Experience in state and federal health and safety compliance
- Experience with administrative tasks, including reporting, budgeting, project management
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, according to department needs
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Spa Management certification is preferred
Other Duties
- All Associates are required to fully comply with hotel and departmental rules, regulations and policies for the safe, secure, effective and environmentally friendly operation of the hotel facilities. Examples include, but are not limited to lost and found procedures, emergency procedures, recycling efforts, etc.
- Attend and participate in all hotel and/or departmental meetings, training sessions and other information meetings.
- Regular attendance in conformance with hotels standards is essential to the successful performance of this position.
- Comply with hotel grooming standards for both uniformed and non-uniformed associates.
- Comply with hotel service and behavioral standards towards our guests, vendors and fellow colleagues, including, but not limited to ensuring proper phone etiquette, courteous and respectful behavior and maintaining a friendly and positive attitude.
- Perform all other duties as directed by management that are consistent with the policies and procedures of the hotel.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
Physical Effort:
Significant portions of day require prolonged standing and moving, lifting or transporting materials up to 25 lbs such as trays, tools, boxes, etc. Ability to visually review documents and computer screen throughout day.
Physical Environment:
Ability to walk or stand for extended periods of time during course of shift.
Manual Skills
Significant portions of daily assignments involve application of manual skills requiring motor coordination in combination with finger dexterity, e.g., typing, handwriting, or machine operations.
Work Schedule:
Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, Associates may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel.
Safety:
Responsible for operating within hotel safety guidelines, including the safe and responsible operation of hotel equipment. Reports and addresses safety concerns as they arise. Ensures safe handling of chemicals in accordance with hotel and department standards and utilizes proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when appropriate.
