Job Description
WHO WE ARE and WHAT WE DO:
The SOC is a mission-focused center that develops strategies and implements tactics on transformational campaigns that confront corporate power. We partner with workers, allies and our affiliates - the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Communication Workers of America (CWA), and the United Farmworkers of America (UFW) - whose 3 million members are united in building a strong, vibrant labor movement through organizing workers hungry for change. Through cutting-edge research and innovative campaigns, the SOC advocates for workers, consumers and other constituencies harmed by concentrated corporate power across a wide range of industries, including food service, transportation and logistics, communications, healthcare, manufacturing and more.
THE OPPORTUNITY:
The Strategic Organizing Center (SOC) is seeking a seasoned organizing professional to lead comprehensive campaigns that challenge America's largest corporations to take responsibility for how their business practices impact working families and their communities. This role will be an integral member of SOC's broader Strategic Research and Campaigns (SRC) team, a growing and diverse multi-disciplinary group that develops and executes comprehensive corporate reform campaigns in partnership with SOC affiliate unions.
THE WORK:
• Lead strategic research and campaign development processes.
• Design campaign plans and supervise the execution of campaign tactics by a team of corporate campaigners, attorneys and communicators in close collaboration with affiliate campaign leadership.
• Build relationships with external partners and specialists that enable effective multi-disciplinary and cross-organizational campaigning.
• Mentor junior campaigners on corporate research and strategy, tactical development and execution, and oversee their work product and development of their professional skills.
• Assist the Director of the Strategic Research and Campaigns Department with overall management responsibilities.
• Contribute to and/or lead other department specific or cross-functional initiatives.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
The Strategic Organizing Center (SOC) is seeking candidates who are passionate about our mission and are highly proactive. While no one candidate will embody all the qualifications below, our ideal candidate would bring:
• Commitment to Social Change: Strong dedication to social justice and workers' rights.
• Research and Communication Skills: Proficient in corporate research, report writing, and public speaking, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
• Writing and Editing Expertise: Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to create clear, compelling, and succinct content that resonates with diverse audiences.
• Proven Leadership in Campaigns: Strong record of building effective partnerships, coalitions, and alliances to drive meaningful change and execute high-impact campaigns.
• Legal and Regulatory Familiarity: Comprehensive understanding of legal and regulatory frameworks relevant to labor rights, workplace standards, and corporate governance, including the ability to analyze corporate filings and quantitative data.
• Team Collaboration: Experience working effectively across functional and organizational lines.
• Leadership and Development: Experience in training, mentoring, and managing staff, with a proven ability to coordinate collaborative projects and achieve strategic objectives.
• Attention to Detail: Strong analytical thinking and keen attention to detail, with the ability to assess trends, risks, and opportunities in support of campaign goals.
• Excellence and Continuous Learning: Dedication to maintaining high standards of work and a commitment to ongoing personal and professional development.
• Time Management: Ability to effectively manage multiple work streams and meet deadlines efficiently and effectively.
Minimum Required Education and Experience:
• BA/BS degree or higher.
• A minimum of 5 years of campaign experience in union, political or community organizing.
• 1+ years of experience as a campaign supervisor at a labor union or other progressive advocacy organization.
• Spanish and/or other non-English language skills a plus.
Physical Demands & Working Environment
• Under current policy, SOC employees spend at least two days per week in-office at our Washington, DC or New York City office locations and may work remotely otherwise.
• Some travel required.
• Must be willing to work long and irregular hours, including work on weekends as necessary, based on campaign needs.
• The SOC has a mandatory COVID vaccine policy and safety protocols in both our office locations, including a required daily health screening survey for in- office days.
WHAT WE OFFER:
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Compensation:
Salary is calculated based on years of experience, with annual increases according to an established salary scale. The salary range for this position is $110,000 - $125,000. This is a full-time exempt position.
Benefits:
The SOC is proud to offer a comprehensive benefits package that prioritizes the well-being and development of our employees:

  • Life and Disability Insurance: We fully cover premiums for life insurance as well as short- and long-term disability insurance.
  • Additional Perks: Receive cell phone provision, Commuter Benefits, and access to Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) to help manage your expenses.
  • Paid Time Off: Accrue 13 days of sick leave, enjoy 14 paid holidays, and take advantage of 10 days of paid vacation (which increases with seniority up to 25 days per year). You'll also receive 2 personal days and 4 days of compensatory time.
  • Parental Leave: Benefit from 8 weeks of paid parental leave to support your growing family.
  • Professional Development: We are committed to your growth, providing a professional development budget each year for every staff member to enhance skills and career advancement.

Join us in a supportive environment where your health, well-being, and professional growth are our top priorities!
