Shipping Manager

Who we are looking for:
We are currently searching for a Shipping/Receiving Manager to be based out of Weatherford, TX. Reporting to the Operations Manager, this person will manage a team of employees by being a key leader of the Shipping Department and the Plant Management Team.
What you'll do:
  • Identify work procedures; prepare work schedules and expedite work flow
  • Perform daily Cycle Counts of Finished Goods Inventory
  • Issue written and oral instruction to provide clear expectations
  • 5s of Shipping areas: Audit work for exactness, neatness and conformance to policies and procedures
  • Study and standardize procedures to improve efficiency of workers
  • Create a team environment
  • Monitor productivity and assist workers with productivity problems
  • Review pipe orders to determine truckload space/percentage and if a fill is needed
  • Match and log each order onto the fill report indicating status (ie: partial w/X# of pallets for fill needed, full load with anticipated ship date"
  • Communicate with CSR regarding fills and order status when requested
  • Coordinate product needs with Production Manager/Plant Manager
  • Allocate and distribute product based on availability and customer priority
  • Communicate with shipping personnel regarding incoming deliveries or special instructions
  • Prepare daily shipping schedule for the carriers and follow up to ensure the loads are covered
  • Negotiate freight rates and search for additional carriers for backup
  • Calculate freight estimates for customers for LTL
  • Utilize freight share tool to calculate specific freight costs for each order
  • Enter freight costs into the computer for each invoice
  • Update the freight exception report for Atkore, when required
  • Prepare shipping documents: packing list and bill of lading for LTL and Truckload orders
  • Invoice all shipments
  • Scan BOL, Packing Lists, and Picking lists to CSR
  • Confer with CSR and or sales agents regarding damages, shortages or overages
  • Report inventory discrepancies to Inventory Control and CSR
  • Resolve shortages or overages with confirmation of physical count for CSR to correct with additional billing or credit
  • Strong knowledge of JD Edwards for shipping utilization
  • Pareto OTD misses and shipping errors
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Associates degree and minimum of 1 year of related experience and/or training in the field preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Time management, planning and organizational skills

  • Experience working with shipping and receiving database/software
  • Shipping/material handling experience with knowledge of shipping and receiving principles, practices and procedures

  • Complete onboarding and gain a thorough understanding of shipping processes, customer requirements, inventory flow, and ERP/WMS systems.

  • Maintain on-time shipment performance at current levels while minimizing disruptions during the transition.
  • Identify and present at least 3 opportunities for process improvement.

Within 6 months, you'll:
  • Improve on-time shipping performance and reduce shipping errors, chargebacks, or customer complaints.
  • Implement process improvements that increase efficiency, accuracy, or throughput.
  • Develop standardized work instructions and training materials for shipping personnel.
  • Improve employee accountability through regular coaching, performance feedback, and team communication.
  • Reduce overtime and labor inefficiencies while maintaining service levels.
  • Establish a KPI dashboard to track shipping performance, productivity, and safety metrics.

Within 9 months, you'll:
  • Demonstrate sustained improvement in shipping KPIs, including on-time delivery, accuracy, productivity, and safety.
  • Develop succession plans and cross-training programs to strengthen team capability.
  • Lead a department improvement initiative that results in measurable cost savings or operational efficiency gains.
  • Build a strong culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement within the shipping team.
  • Partner with plant leadership to support broader operational objectives and customer service goals.
  • Achieve or exceed annual departmental performance targets.

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay for this position is $78,880 - $108,460 Placement in the range depends on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, relevant experience, skills, seniority, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business or organizational needs and may change over time. Other compensation may include, but not limited to, overtime, shift differentials, bonuses, commissions, stock, and other incentives.
