Location: This position will be on-site full-time in Chicopee, MA. The position holder will need to be within commuting distance (within 45 min).

Shipping / Receiving Manager Summary: 

The Shipping/ Receiving Manager reports to the Operations Manager and is responsible for management of shipping, receiving, inventory and traffic management activities in support of production and customer service requirements. The Shipping / Receiving Manager supervises assigned personnel to include interviewing, counseling, disciplining, appraising performance and ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures. Other responsibilities include directing the scheduling of shipments and initiation of investigations into causes of shipping errors; implementing corrective action measures as required. 

Shipping / Receiving Manager Duties / Responsibilities:

Directs warehousing activities for organization by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates:

  • Schedules daily/weekly customer deliveries. 
  • Manages scheduling of company truck to pick-up raw materials required to support production needs in two facilities and off sight storage containers. 
  • Establishes operational procedures for activities such as verification of incoming and outgoing shipments, handling, disposition of materials, and maintenance of warehouse inventory. 
  • Schedules customer deliveries using company trucks, common carriers and/or LTL delivery services as directed by customer's residence. 
  • Oversees Inventory management. 
  • Ensures materials issues and receipts are completed on a timely basis. 
  • Ensures shipping transactions are accurate and timely. 
  • Performs cycle count as required. Monthly and year need full warehouse physical count. 
  • Checks "prior days" shipping transactions for accuracy. 
  • Manages monthly and quarterly physical inventories, working with purchasing group to reconcile inventory. 
  • Keeps warehouse orderly and clean - Conducts 5S events in the warehouse area. 

Manages and develops employees including: 

  • Training and cross-training department personnel. 
  • Monitors performance and provides timely coaching as required. 
  • Conducts timely performance reviews. 
  • Utilizes progressive discipline process in addressing performance problems. 
  • Ensures warehouse staff are trained in and follow company safety policies and procedures. 

 Other duties and responsibilities: 

  • Manages departmental spending to within budget. Confers with department heads to ensure coordination of warehouse activities with activities of other functions such as production, sales, records control, and purchasing. 
  • Participates in quality corrective action meetings. 
  • Manages operator forklift driver training and certification. 
  • Coordinates recycling programs with outside contractors. 
  • Ensures compliance with existing safety policies and procedures by inspecting physical condition of warehouse and equipment, as well as, participating in the planning of personnel safety and plant protection activities. 

Shipping / Receiving Manager Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education diploma (GED). 
  • 5 years Shipping/Receiving and Warehousing experience. 
  • 1 year Supervisory/Team Lead experience, preferred. 
  • Current drivers license in good standing. 
  • Forklift Certified. 
  • Good understanding of Epicor (ERP), preferred. 
  • SAP experience, preferred. 
  • Demonstrated flexibility, sense of urgency, and ability to complete tasks quickly and efficiently without sacrificing quality. 
  • Proficiency in simple math, accurate counting. 
  • Demonstrated ability to function efficiently in a high-volume logistics operation and execute transactions in an IT system, such as a Warehouse Management System. 
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to contribute positively to team morale.
