Position Summary:

The intercollegiate athletics program is an integral partof the university striving to achieve the same standards of excellence in athletics that exist within academic programs.The program is concerned with the physical and mental welfare of the student and strives to ensure that every athlete has the opportunity to succeedacademically and obtain a degree. Sport programs are a vital function of theUniversity at large. This position is responsible for the assisting in the successful planning,direction and administration of all aspects of the University's NCAA Division I Softball Program.

Job Duties:

  1. Assist in developing, directing, and advancing a successful Division I softball program.
       * Assist in the planning and conducting of practice and training sessions (pre-season, traditional and non-traditional training segments, of-season and summer).
       * Assist in the development and implementation of competitive strategies, including scouting
       * Assist in development of student-athletes
       * Lead and motivate student-athletes to maximize their potential.
  2. Recruit quality student-athletes.
  3. Assist in the facilitation of the academic success of student-athletes which includes retention and culminates with graduation.
       * Recognize students who achieve academic excellence.
  4. Assist with administrative duties, which may include but is not limited to ordering/selection of equipment and supplies, arranging practice and competitive facilities, scheduling, and budget management and adherence.
  5. Demonstrate knowledge, understanding, adherence, and commitment to all NCAA, Conference, State, and Institutional rules and regulations.
  6. Assist with the cultivation of a team culture that ensures appropriate and acceptable student behavior.
  7. Demonstrate knowledge and skills to assist a competitive Division I softball program. Remain current on all trends, methods, and innovations related to softball and coaching.
  8. Participate in program and departmental fundraising, public relations, and promotional efforts. Coordinate an outreach program that encourages student-athlete and sport program visibility in the University and local community. Assist with camps and clinics.
  9. Assist in the maintenance of softball facilities and equipment.
    Perform all other duties as assigned.

  • Assist the head coach in devising methods by which the team can achieve success.
  • Assist with the establishment and development of the team atmosphere.
  • Creates a positive atmosphere for the successful recruitment of student-athletes.
  • Promotion of community involvement by all team personnel.
  • Take on additional responsibilities delegated by the head coach in order to be exposed to head coaching responsibilities not normally assigned the assistant coach in order to prepare for advancement in the profession.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree preferred 
  • Combination of Division I collegiate playing/coaching experience preferred. Knowledge of NCAA rules required.
  • Required (may obtain and maintain immediately following hire): CPR/First Aid, NCAA Rules andRegulations certification.
  • Computer skills.
  • Knowledge and adherence to NCAA, Conference, State, Institutional, and Department rules and regulations.
  • Motivation skills.
  • Commitment to working with multi-cultural populations and have an awareness of issues affecting women and minorities.
  • Organizational and Management Skills.
  • Supervision (e.g. Athletes, Student Assistant Coaches, Summer Staff).
  • Public Speaking / Fundraising.
