Under the direction of the Building and Grounds Director, the Maintenance Assistant is responsible for the general maintenance of the interior and exterior of the building and grounds areas for the Maplewood Family YMCA. The candidate may serve as designee to assist in shift assignments, interact with other departments and set up for meetings or special events. Assists custodial staff with cleanliness of branches when assigned. The position is responsible for demonstrating YMCA leadership competencies to ensure the mission, purpose, image and core values of the YMCA of Greater Rochester is conveyed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks for Maplewood.
  • Repair and maintain building surfaces, structures, property, and operating equipment.
  • Maintain pool and filter areas.
  • Inspect, clean, and maintain custodial equipment.
  • Assist Building and Grounds Director in the quality control of building cleanliness and perform custodial duties as needed.
  • Paint premises and perform construction restoration projects as assigned.
  • Report any damage to property and/or needed repairs of urban sites.
  • Assist with supervising custodial staff.
  • Sets up, takes down, and stores program equipment as needed and consistently.
  • Shovel snow, clear and salt sidewalks in inclement weather.
  • Remain accessible and on-call for building emergencies as a back-up to the Building & Grounds Director.
  • Assist with projects at all urban sites.
  • May occasionally require an adjusted work schedule, extended hours including evenings/weekends to meet deadlines.
  • Attend all required meetings and trainings.
  • All other duties assigned.

Requirements
โ€ข Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or GED.
โ€ข General knowledge of building mechanics, operations, and equipment. Possess knowledge and usage of power and hand tools.
โ€ข Must have the ability to operate maintenance equipment or willingness to acquire the necessary skills.
โ€ข Possess thorough knowledge of building cleaning to include disinfection, carpet care, tile and hard floor maintenance, wood floor care, and cleaning equipment maintenance are major components of this position.
โ€ข Must possess organizational skills as well as excellent communication skills.
โ€ข Must be able to work independently, as well as collaboratively with fellow staff members.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Ability to work indoor and outdoor in normal environment with some exposure to noise, dust, fumes, vibrations and temperature changes.
  • Ability to move within the building including movement from floor to floor and outside the building.
  • Ability to consistently stand, bend, stoop, reach, climb stairs/ladders and lift up to 75 pounds on a repetitive basis.
  • May handle human body fluids and be exposed to chemicals using universal precautions as part of the daily operational duties.
