Permit Technician - PA West

Requires clerical and technical support duties within the Plan Review and Permits Services Division of the Building Department. Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills and be personable.  Assist walk-in residents and contractors with the building permit application process.

Answer incoming phone calls and respond to voice mail providing information on the permit process, building department requirements, regulations and procedures.  Must have strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and internal permitting programs.

Support Scheduling of inspection requests.  Take phone messages for the Building Code Official and inspectors.  Do not schedule appointments for the Building Code Official, unless specifically requested to do so by the Building Code Official.  Have knowledge of the Building Codes and construction is preferred and the candidate will be expected to pursue the Building Code Official certification.

Log in and stamp applications for plan review.

Record all zoning permits on a spreadsheet, then match them to building permits and note each match on the spreadsheet. Give this report to the Building Code Official Monthly. This will ensure that a job has not been done without a building permit.

Receive and review completed permit applications.  Ensure that the application information is accurate and complete by verifying that the contractors' insurance information, zoning permit, two sets of plans, contact numbers, and correct address including lot number, subdivision name, and directions to the property are included.
