POSITION OVERVIEW
We are looking for an experienced Pastry Assistant to join our baking team. As a Pastry Assistant at Ole & Steen you will prepare a variety of cakes, pastries, and other sweet goods according tour traditional Danish recipes.
The ideal candidate will be well-versed in culinary arts with a passion for sweet and delicious creations. The ability to work well alone and as part of a team is a must. They must adhere to health and safety standards. The goal is to enhance customer satisfaction so that we can maintain and expand our clientele and you must expect to produce a high volume of products for our stores. This role is ideal for someone who is interested in learning about real Danish pastries and cakes and wants to pursue a career as a dessert or pastry chef.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepare a variety of cakes, pastries, and other sweet goods according to our traditional Danish recipes
  • Observe and maintain the quality of products being baked, and adjust oven temperatures, baking time accordingly
  • Combine measured ingredients in bowls of mixing, blending, or cooking machinery
  • Decorating pastries and cakes in a consistent style to ensure a beautiful presentation
  • Checking quality of raw materials to ensure that standards and specifications are met
  • Follow plating and display standards
  • Follow portion standards
  • Monitor inventory of ingredients for production
  • Properly label and store ingredients
  • Check equipment to ensure that it meets health and safety regulations
  • Maintain a clean and orderly station and adhere to health and safety standards

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
  • A High School diploma or GED certificate is a plus
  • Completion of a Culinary School program or apprenticeship preferred
  • 1-2 years of pastry-making relevant experience
  • The ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Able to lift 50lbs
  • Basic math skills
  • Great attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, especially during the holidays
  • Maintain a clean environment and keeping the area organized and free of clutter
  • Thoroughly follow company procedures according to health and safety standards
  • Adhere to all food safety regulations and procedures

Ole & Steen was founded in 1991 by the Danish bakers Ole Kristoffersen and Steen Skallebæk and originally called Lagkagehuset or "The Layer Cake House".
