Job Description

We are currently looking for a talented Pastry Helper to join our team. The Pastry Helper assists the Pastry Chef for overall production of all pastries and baked goods in the Pastry Kitchen. The Pastry Helper maintains a commitment to guest service and ensures that safe and high quality food service is provided at all times. All duties will be performed within the guidelines of the St. Petersburg Yacht Club policies and procedures, Internal Control Standards, and objectives.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma (or equivalent), some culinary school or related experience, and two or more years of experience in a similar environment. Candidates must have knowledge of facets of the Pastries and Baking Department as well as cake decorating.

The benefits listed below are dependent on number of hours worked.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Participate in the preparation and execution of all production.
  2. Planning and organization of all items produced in the Pastry kitchen.
  3. Prepare all items according to set standards.
  4. Ensure timely execution of all meal functions.
  5. Monitor incoming food products to ensure proper quality and assist storeroom personnel in quality control.
  6. Monitor all refrigeration and dry storage for proper handling and rotation.
  7. Keep an open communication with superiors.
  8. Plan and develop new desserts for restaurants, banquets and special functions, i.e., weddings.
  9. Coach and teach all staff members as a continuing process to ensure a smooth operation and maintain a high-level standard in the Pastry Kitchen.
  10. Maintain a high level of sanitation and safety.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Respond to any reasonable task assigned.
  2. Attend meetings as needed, i.e., department head, pre-con, etc.
  3. Assist in other areas of the kitchen as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Culinary school or related experience
  • Two or more years of culinary experience in a similar operation

  • Knowledge of culinary department duties

  • Knowledge of the use, cleaning, and safe handling / breakdown of all equipment
