Job description

Position Summary:

The Pastry Chef is responsible for preparing a variety of baked goods, including cakes, breads, and pastries, while adhering to recipes and maintaining consistent quality and presentation. This role also involves performing supervisory duties, including managing kitchen staff, overseeing daily operations, and ensuring compliance with food safety and sanitation standards. The position demands strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. The Pastry Chef will also contribute to menu development, banquet preparations, and special events as needed, while ensuring the efficient operation of the kitchen.

Key Responsibilities and Requirements:

In addition to creating high-quality pastries and baked goods, the Pastry Chef will supervise staff, recommend hiring decisions, and manage daily kitchen operations. Responsibilities also include maintaining cleanliness and safety standards, training and evaluating team members, and minimizing food waste to achieve forecasted food costs. The role requires proficiency in basic computer software and the Kronos timekeeping system, as well as obtaining Serv-Safe certification within 90 days of hire. Physical demands include standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 lbs, and working in varying kitchen temperatures. A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required, along with 3–5 years of relevant experience in pastry or baking. Additionally, the Pastry Chef must pass a pre-employment alcohol/drug screen and maintain a valid New Mexico driver's license.
