Job description

About National Development Group

NDG is a boutique general contracting firm specializing in high-end residential remodels and commercial tenant improvements across Ventura County and greater Los Angeles. We operate a sub-heavy model focused on quality, client relationships, and margin discipline — not volume. Our projects range from $50K to $1M+, and we are entering an active growth phase with several significant projects in our pipeline including a $1M+ residential remodel currently in precon.

We are a small, lean team. The person we hire will be employee #1 in a field leadership role — a genuine ground-floor opportunity to grow with the company and shape how the field operation runs.

The Role

This is a hands-on field leadership role. You will own everything that happens in the field — from mobilization through punch list. You will be the primary point of contact for subcontractors on active jobs, responsible for keeping schedules tight, materials flowing, and quality on point. The owner handles sales, bids, and client relationships. You handle the field.

This is not a desk job. You will be on sites, walking jobs, talking to subs, and solving problems in real time. At the same time, you need to be organized enough to run material procurement, track schedules, and communicate clearly back to the office.

Core Responsibilities

Field Supervision

  • Own the day-to-day field operations on all active jobs

  • Supervise and coordinate subcontractors — scheduling, sequencing, accountability

  • Conduct daily site walks and document progress, issues, and RFIs

  • Enforce quality standards consistent with high-end residential and commercial work

  • Coordinate inspections and ensure permit compliance

Scheduling & Procurement

  • Build and maintain project schedules from mobilization through closeout

  • Identify and order materials ahead of need — no waiting on the job for materials

  • Manage material deliveries, storage, and staging on site

  • Track submittals, lead times, and long-lead items proactively

Subcontractor Management

  • Source, vet, and onboard new subcontractors as needed

  • Issue scopes of work and coordinate sub bids with the office

  • Hold subs accountable to schedule, quality, and safety standards

  • Build and maintain strong sub relationships that benefit the company long-term

Communication & Reporting

  • Provide weekly schedule and progress updates to the owner

  • Flag problems early — no surprises

  • Coordinate with office on change orders, RFIs, and client-facing items

  • Maintain job site documentation including photos, daily logs, and delivery receipts

What We're Looking For

Required

  • 8+ years of construction experience with meaningful field leadership responsibility

  • Strong high-end residential remodel experience — you understand the craft, the clients, and the details that matter

  • Proven ability to manage multiple subcontractors across trades simultaneously

  • Solid material procurement skills — you know how to spec, source, and order

  • Clean, reliable, professional — this person represents NDG on job sites in front of high-end clients

  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation

  • Strong communication skills — written and verbal

Highly Preferred

  • Commercial tenant improvement experience in addition to residential

  • Existing sub relationships in the Ventura County / LA market

  • CA contractor's license (B or relevant C license) — or willingness to pursue

  • Familiarity with project management tools and digital scheduling

Compensation & Benefits

Base Salary | $75,000 – $90,000 DOE
Performance Bonus | 1–2% of gross profit on jobs you run
Vehicle Allowance | $400–$600/month
Phone | Provided or stipend
Health Insurance | Contribution toward medical coverage
PTO | Paid time off
Growth Path | First field hire at a growing boutique GC — real upside
Total Estimated Package | $95,000 – $115,000+ fully loaded

Why NDG

  • Boutique firm — you're not a number, your work matters and is visible

  • High-end project mix — residential remodels and commercial TI, not tract housing or commodity work

  • Lean team means real autonomy — you own the field, not just a piece of it

  • Growth phase — $1M+ residential remodel in precon, active pipeline building

  • Owner is focused on business development — the field is yours to run

  • Performance is rewarded directly through bonus structure tied to job outcomes

How to Apply

Send the following to info@nationaldevgroup.com:

  • Resume or work history — projects you've run, trades you've managed, project values

  • Brief description of 2–3 projects you're most proud of and your specific role

  • References from subcontractors or owners you've worked with (preferred)

We will respond to qualified candidates within 48 hours. We're moving quickly — target start within 30 days for the right person.
