Job description

POSITION SUMMARY An employee in this position performs Library circulation tasks and provides information services to the public through modern library techniques and technology for the Library of Harnett County at assigned location(s) for assigned schedule. Work involves: demonstrating excellent customer service skills while assisting patrons with technology, working at the circulation desk; searching for information, and performing other Library service needs. Hiring Salary: $34,948.00 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION: Works directly with the public

Assists patrons in person and by phone. Greets and assists patrons with Library related services. Provides reference and readers' advisory services.

Assists Library patrons with: searching online; with using Microsoft Office products including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; and utilizing other electronic resources. Provides assistance with the Library's print management system. Retrieves items from the outside book drop.

Organizes Library materials and returns items to the appropriate locations. Works with various office equipment including fax machine, copier, computer, and laminator. Assists with library programming.

Researches related genres for suggested reading. Performs circulation duties; registers new patrons; checks items in and out; collects overdue fines; reserves Library materials for patrons; searches the catalogue; and manages patron accounts. Photocopies and faxes information.

Sanitizes and tidies areas that patrons frequent. Assists with resource sharing services and duties including shipping and receiving out-of-county library materials as well as delivery to branch libraries. Must be able to drive and operate a vehicle as needed.

Performs other related duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK: High school diploma; No experience required but some work or volunteer experience in a library or a customer service setting preferred; Or equivalent education and/or experience. Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license.

Obtain Notary Public within 1 year of hire. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES: Knowledge of computers and the Internet. Knowledge of basic library filing systems.

Skill in delivering customer service. Ability to assist the public with computers. Ability to plan and implement creative programming for children and teens.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to perform light work frequently exerting up to 10 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects; and occasionally requiring to exert up to 20 pounds of force to move objects. This work also involves the physical abilities of crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, perceiving sounds at normal speaking levels, discriminating among sounds, kneeling, lifting, having manual dexterity, using mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, speaking, standing, stooping, expressing ideas by the spoken word, and walking. An incumbent must also possess the visual acuity to analyze data, work with color or depth perception, determine accuracy, and works with computer.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The employee works in a library environment. Job duties require working an assigned schedule which could be a combination of mornings, afternoons, and evening work as well as weekends in addition to working at various locations such as the main branch in Lillington and other branch libraries.
