The Town of Clayton is seeking applicants for an Athletic Preschool Sports Instructor - Part Time for the Parks and Recreation Department. The Town of Clayton employs more than 340 full-time staff in areas including police, fire, and electric utilities. Duties & Responsibilities
Clayton Recreation and Parks is seeking skilled Part Time - Athletic Preschool Sports Instructor to teach the fundamentals of introductory sports to children 2 to 6 years of age. Sports include but not limited to: basketball, t-ball, soccer, and multi sports. Class sessions are located at Clayton Community Center. Schedule and duration of each class/program will be determined as appropriate. The majority of hours can be picked up in the evenings during the week and on Saturdays. Instructor schedules all depends on their availability. Necessary equipment will be provided by the Parks and Recreation Department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop, coordinate and execute lesson plans and course outlines
  • Assure the return and condition of issued equipment and supplies
  • Compile and maintain record-keeping related to each class (e.g. attendance)
  • Teach and demonstrate sports skills and techniques
  • Communicate effectively with age appropriate language
  • Direct Preschool Sports Aide to assist during class time
  • Perform other related duties as required

Special Requirements, Education & Experience
  • Ability to effectively prepare and carry out lesson plans (as appropriate)
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working/teaching relationships with co-workers, participants and their family members
  • Strong and effective spoken and written (English) communication skills in order to conduct classes and perform related record-keeping
  • Ability to effectively lead and supervise large groups in recreational activities

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at time of application.
  • Requires valid NC driver's license.
  • Basic knowledge of sporting activities and rules of play
  • Experience working with preschoolers ages 2-6
  • Preferred Qualification: Major or minor field of study in recreation, physical education, education or related field
