Job description

Ravenscroft is seeking a Middle/Upper School Assistant Librarian to join the Library Services team. This is a full-time, 10-month position based on the Raleigh Main Campus.

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about connecting students and faculty with resources, fostering a love of reading and inquiry, and contributing to a vibrant, student-centered library community.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None 

What You'll Do:

  • Support students and faculty with research, resources, and the use of physical and digital library materials
  • Collaborate with teachers to align library resources with curriculum goals and classroom instruction
  • Manage circulation activities and maintain an organized, well-curated library collection
  • Coordinate library and Keim Center scheduling and ensure the space is prepared for classes and events
  • Oversee the library environment to maintain a safe, productive, and welcoming community space
  • Contribute to library programming such as author visits, reading contests, and guest speakers
  • Support cross-divisional library needs in the Lower School as directed by the Director of Library Services
  • Assist with ordering supplies, preparing usage reports, and submitting facility maintenance requests
  • Engage in professional development to stay current with library services and educational technology

Qualifications

Required:

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Enthusiastic, flexible, and collaborative approach to work
  • Familiarity with current educational technologies and library best practices
  • Commitment to working in a diverse, inclusive, and mission-aligned school community

Preferred: 

  • ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library/Information Sciences or a related field
  • Experience in middle and/or upper school library or education settings
  • Experience with, or willingness to work alongside, elementary-aged students
  • Familiarity with integrated library systems (ILS) and library management software

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

This role is based on Ravenscroft’s campus and includes work in library spaces, classrooms, and shared community areas across divisions. The position requires the ability to move throughout campus, manage and process physical library materials (including lifting up to 30 pounds), use library management software and instructional technology regularly, and communicate effectively with students, faculty, and families. Occasional cross-divisional support in the Lower School Library may be required. Some evening or weekend responsibilities may be expected.
