Job description

Campus Enterprises Mission:Campus Enterprises is NC State University's division of retail and hospitality organizations - NC State Dining, NC State Stores, Lonnie Poole Golf Course, NC State Student Centers (Witherspoon and Talley), and the One Card Office. Each department is dedicated to providing service excellence, value, and enrichment of the student experience in support of academic success.
Purpose: Provide vital support to Campus Enterprises and NC State Dining by providing an excellent dining experience for all guests.
Compensation: Students will start at a training level of tier 1 at $11 per hour. Once they have demonstrated sufficient skills, they will be eligible to be promoted to a tier 2 position at $12 per hour.
In addition, eligible students will receive longevity raises based on years of service within Campus Enterprises. Dining and Catering employees earn free meals and are eligible for an end-of-semester bonus of up to $200.
Locations: Coffee shops and cafes including Port City Java (multiple locations), Starbucks (Talley Student Union), Hill of Beans (D.H. Hill Library), Caribou Cafes (multiple locations), and Common Grounds (Hunt Library). Applicants will have an opportunity to express their preference for location on the application. Essential functions and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Prepare high-quality beverages, such as espresso-based beverages, shakes, and smoothies.
  • Prepare made-to-order food items (that may include meat).
  • Complete brand-specific training within the designated amount of time as authorized by the General Manager.
  • Store food in designated areas following wrapping, dating, food safety, and rotation procedures.
  • Clean work areas (kitchen production area, customer service area, dining room, lobbies, and restrooms).
  • Wash dishes, glassware, equipment, and serving utensils.
  • Restock the beverage and dining area as needed.
  • Adhere to all recipe, production, and presentation standards to ensure proper quality, serving temperatures, and standard portion control while following all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines.
  • Serve customers in a friendly, efficient manner, following the outlined steps of service, and provide excellent customer service.
  • Resolve customer concerns to the best of your ability and relay relevant information to the supervisor.
  • Operate the micros system (point of sale) and accurately process transactions in adherence with university policy.
  • Assist the supervisor with opening and closing duties of the unit as assigned
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, peers, and guests.
  • Help to maintain temperature and sanitation to ensure food safety and assist units in maintaining a Grade A sanitation of 95% or better.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications:
  • Current NC State University student with a flexible schedule
  • Willingness to handle and serve all types of food (including meat products)
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to read and follow both written and verbal instructions and recipes to efficiently and accurately assemble menu items.
  • Ability to work with a team and effectively communicate.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must attend mandatory student employee orientation and training sessions
