Principal Associate, Risk Manager - Issues & Events Management (Hybrid)

As a Principal Risk Specialist within the Card Risk team, you will engage with a team of risk managers, product owners and business leads in delivering flawlessly executed event and issue management.Each issue or event is a self-contained project; it requires analysis of the underlying breakdown, identification of the right solution and ongoing execution to facilitate closure.Since risk events and issues do not happen sequentially, at any given time you will be concurrently managing multiple open items. You will collaborate with smart and passionate leaders to improve Capital One's risk profile while putting the customer first. You will educate and gain buy-in from key stakeholders concerning the health and performance of processes supporting US Card.

We are seeking dedicated, disciplined, risk professionals who excel in a team environment. This individual will have demonstrated that they can improve company processes, resulting in saving time and resources for the company. This individual must be able to effectively communicate and influence partners across the company and across multiple levels of the organization. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt to a dynamic environment are essential to succeeding in this role. This individual must display strong partnership and influence to motivate others in delivering flawless execution of Issue and Event Management.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide project management for Issue and Event management execution through established processes and standards to mitigate risk to company and ensure optimal customer recovery

  • Partner with Legal and Compliance to deeply understand exposure from breakdowns to provide guidance to the business

  • Guide root cause analysis to ensure the breakdown is fully understood to influence sustainable containment plans in order to prevent similar future breakdowns

  • Coordinate, influence and negotiate priorities with partner dependencies to ensure event goals/timelines are met; escalating when appropriate

  • Streamline interactions with the business related to breakdown enhancement, event progress and process improvement opportunities

  • Support research and problem-solving as needed to support the business

  • Training and development of teammates and others as necessary

  • Establishing strong interaction models and relationships to collaborate with key stakeholders, ensuring delivery of commitments

  • Maintaining performance that aligns with quality and production metrics

A successful candidate will have:

  • A deep understanding of Capital One Enterprise Risk Management Standards, tools, playbooks and systems to document the risk and resolution as required;

  • Demonstrated outstanding communication, relationship building

  • Exceptional collaboration skills necessary for interacting with key stakeholders at all levels across the company to manage, inform, and influence outcomes

  • Strong judgment and critical thinking skills

  • Process and project management experience with excellent organization and planning skills

  • Capacity to deliver quality work, multi-task, and focus on priorities in a dynamic environment

  • Strong problem solving skills

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent

  • At least 2 years of Operations, Financial Services Compliance or Risk Management experience

  • At least 2 years of experience in Process Management or Project Management


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience

  • 1+ years of Risk Event management or Issue Management experience

  • 1+ years of analytical experience

  • 3+ years of experience in management of multiple projects concurrently in an autonomous environment

  • 3+ years of risk methodologies and corporate risk practices experience

  • 3+ years of operations management or risk management experience

  • Lean, Agile, Six Sigma, Business Process Management, or Project Management certification

Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

Chicago, IL: $109,900 - $125,400 for Principal Risk Specialist


McLean, VA: $120,800 - $137,900 for Principal Risk Specialist


Richmond, VA: $109,900 - $125,400 for Principal Risk Specialist









Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
